Royal Power Tank motor substitution

I have navy blue Royal Power Tank with a burnt out vacuum motor; the machine had been used to suck up drywall dust with only the cloth bag, no paper bag, no foam filter, before I got it. I cleaned and lubricated the motor when I got it, but the damage was done, and the motor is dead after only a couple of years of use.
So, my question is: Are there any other brands of vacuum that use the same motor, or one that is compatible with that of a Royal?

I had heard once that Lamb Electric made the motors for both Filter queen and Royal. Is this the case? Are there any other vacuum brands' motors that will fit? As the rest of the vacuum is intact, I was hoping to swap out the motor and get some more use out of it.

It just takes a standard Lamb motor that tons of vacuums use. Its easiest to just get one on eBay or from a vacuum store. Heres one that will work.

The motor for sale

The motor for sale is a Lamb model 116311-20 120volts 7.5 amps 10 amps with power nozzle built 12-1992. It runs like new and should last for years and you can't beat the price.

Many motors will fit but the Royal motors have different airflow specs from the others. I stuck a new motor out of a Kenmore (body cracked in shipping) in a Powertank, and it was not near as powerful as the original. Mind you, the Kenmore motor actually looked bigger and stronger, but it still didn't move quite as much air.

Yes it will work, but I would try to find one of the original 11 amp motors for maximum performance.

Oh, you know, surprisingly many dead motors can be brought back to life at a decent motor shop for not a lot of money. You might look into that. What exactly went wrong with it?

I have a spare motor that came out of a late 90's PowerTank. It needs new bearings, but I'll put them in and you can have it for the cost of the bearings + shipping.

The motor issue:

Due to its misuse before I owned it, the motor in this tank never really sounded "healthy". It had good suction, but had a different sound than the motors in my other power tanks. It began to have intermittent motor pitch fluctuations, but would always work its way back up to full throttle. One night while vacuuming, the motor pitch went all Christina Aguilera on me; up, down, up, down, accompanied by a foul burnt odor, and finally settled at a steady but low, grumbling rpm. I had had trouble with the speed control slide switch on the unit in the past, and tried to bypass it in case this was the cause, but it is definitely the motor.
Thank you for the offer of a replacement. I am away from the machine at the moment, but will let you know my plans once I am back with it.

sounds like the armature took a junk on you, I am sure that you can get the armature and brushes replaced easily in this motor

Sounds like bad bearings and excessive arcing from the brushes. Those are tough motors, I'll bet it isn't shorted. More than likely that burning smell was the stuck front bearing spinning in the rubber bearing sleeve, burning it up.
