I know that I mostly ask for support from the community, but that's because I'm trying to expand my knowledge about vacuum cleaners! My question for today is: does anybody know about the rarity of the Eureka ESP 2068 AY? I haven't seen it anywhere online except for an old Eureka ad and a newspaper ad (kudos to Paul for finding that one). Also if you owns this model, then feel free to let me know!

Updates on my collection: I have gotten an Oreck U4120H2BPD, a Eureka The Boss Power Plus, a Kirby Heritage that I may not keep, and a Hoover Encore Supreme. I'm working on trying to get a Wild Moss Eureka as well. One of my current favorites is the Eureka 1447 upright. It has the blender motor, which I like. It also has a plastic handle. And I am obsessed with that coral color. So that's also a vacuum that I'd like to own.

Eureka had so many sublets of models and every variation to the tool & die seemed to create an entirely new model number. Paul has done a excellent job documenting all their models, and if I remember right Hoover300 was too, or I might be confusing him with another person. I myself have a few Eurekas that do not exist in any other collector's collections either on YouTube or Vacuumland itself going back to 2006 posts.

I doubt a lot of collections have the Excalibur Mega or the Sanitaire SP6951 and SP6952 in them along with the S6982 and S6984 flavors of the Home Cleaning System. The Swedish made Eureka canisters don't seem to get collected often.

Thanks, man.

Go ahead and ask away - no one is keeping tabs, and if you stick around long enough you'll be answering others' questions from your acquired knowledge and adding new information. Good to have you here. You have a nice assortment of brands and models in your collection.

It appears that the model 2068 is pretty rare, indeed, due to its lack of online presence in any form and limited newspaper ads. It may have been a promotional model. Huskyvacs nailed it when he mentioned that Eureka had many models and model-types (variations).

I would like to see your photos of it and your other vacs, including the ratings plates.

By the way, there are two versions of the 1447: one made in white and orange with the "classic" metal hood style in the late 1970s and yours that was made a decade later. According to a parts list, the color name of the hood is Salmon. Two other models of which I am aware have what appears to be the same hood color: the 1903 HP (various types) and the 630-F (earlier types have "classic" tan hoods).

Can anyone from across the pond tell me who this actress is? I love this commercial! Is she still alive?

I would say by now, any of the steel body models of any Eureka sub brand are rare. 1990 was 35 years ago. I bet the plastic body Express, Powerline, Europa, World vac, and the uprights maybe as rare because because of degrading plastics and or non replaceable motor brushes. I think by the time the Victory line emerged it was just a planned obsolete disposable.

No shortage of steel body Eureka canister vacuums on ebay.

But they are there eventually.
Like anything on ebay it's a mixed bag but I have bought some really nice old Eureka's off ebay. I bought a gorgeous, new in the box "Ham Can" Cordaway model two years ago off ebay. Both of my Vactronic models came from ebay sellers. Just a few months ago I bought a Kenmore Heavy Duty branded Eureka Ironsides in mint condition off ebay.

You seem to have incredible luck on ebay.
I define luck as when preparation meets opportunity. For me it is not luck. Rather it is persistence. I prowl ebay daily looking for treasure.

That Kenmore branded Eureka Ironsides was something I had heard existed but had never seen, Not even an image. I had been looking for over a decade figuring sooner or later one would turn up on ebay. And sure enough one did.

Natural luck and hammering a myriad of different searches, thats what I was doing. When I first started collecting in 2016 I seen a Federal Electric vacuum on eBay for $50 and had to chose between it and a Hoover 725. I got the Hoover, and have never seen another Federal vac ever again since. Gotten many more rare and unique vacuums since then but I still think about that Federal.

Keep looking on ebay. Save the search and click notifications. Give it time. One will show up. I waited over ten years for a couple of vacuums but eventually they showed up and I swooped.

Oh, I thought this was the Prince model! I never saw one or the other in person. My aunt had the smaller blue princess with the plastic top handle. I also never saw the first Empress canister in person. Was it an updated short run contemporary model between the first gen. canned hams, and the second? Then the second gen. Empress canister was introduced with a Vibrabeat, before the power teams. Was the Emporer upright sourced from Panasonic?

There were two Eureka Princes—three, if you count our Canadian friend and regular VL poster, Brian! :) The Prince vacuums each had a different design; the second being named "Prince II". The main difference between the Prince II and Princess/Princess II model-types (several designs) was that the former was equipped with a power selector. For whatever reason, Eureka dropped the Prince II model name in the mid-'60s and retained the Princess moniker until c.1980 even though the model itself was produced another five years or so (at least the later ads carried no mention of the name).

The Empress was a beefed up version of the Mobile Aire/Vibra-Beat series, introduced in 1965 and marketed for about 5 years until the Empress II came on the scene. The last Eureka-brand canned hams were the ones enameled in Brandywine as far as I know. The Montgomery Wards and JCP versions may have been offered for a bit longer into the 1980s.

Yes, Panasonic designed the Emperor and the Easy Glide according to others; although I'm unsure if it also manufactured them. If nothing else, it may have done the manufacturing and Eureka Williams the assembling. Brian or someone else may know.

Panasonic made a vacuum for Eureka? Are you sure? You know patents only last 17 years. After that anybody can copy. Riccar started selling Taiwanese made Jet Flo copies starting with the model 1850. A lot of companies have copied the Jet Flo design. I can't find a photo of the Emperor but would really love to see one.

Check out this thread to see a TV commercial for it and read some discussion. The Emperor debuted in 1967 and was marketed for several years; being upstaged by the Eureka Williams designed and produced Vanguard model-type 2080-A in 1969:

The Easy Glide appeared in 1968 and also remained on the market for several years. Here's a link to an archived thread:
