vacuuming is a small fraction of cleaning
"Cleaning" is too generic. Vacuuming primarily reduces dust volume in an area. As you sit down in your favorite chair, you are shedding 3,000,000 skin cells per hour. If you are moving around, up to 25,000,000 skin cells per hour. Add animals, and you end up with a technically dirty environment very quickly.
Cleaning is reducing soil and germ loads from environmental surfaces - sinks, counters, toilets, walls, doors, cabinets, etc. Cleaning a house is not the same as cleaning a hospital patient room. It's all a matter of perspective.
I have been in cleaning management for 23 years. Vacuuming my home was always a necessary evil with having two cats and a German Shepherd. Now that I have some fun vacuums, it's no longer a chore.
