Mine was a real score...a beat up old Hoover Convertible U4047

Coming home from church we spotted a Kirby heritage sitting against a house with some other things for big trash pick up day, but it was against the house and not yet at the curb--so I couldn't really do any thing and it was only after nine in the morning on a Sunday so we could not knock on the door to inquire; so I drove by several times and it was still against the house--so we went by today and it was history :(. I once salvaged a DAM from a dumpster and its cord went on an old model 26 where it remains still. (A woman really gets weird looks when she is rooting around a dumpster!)

A Hoover model 305. Saw it sitting on a trash pile, thought it was a 28 and passed by as I already have a nice 28, but then turned around, thinking it could also be a 27 or 305. After I parked the car and crossed the street, as I got closer to it I spotted the embossed hood and realized this was a 305, with a replacement cord and genuine Hoover replacement bag, the often seen tan bag with red printing. Checked it out when I got it home, runs great but handle is crooked, bag needs some work, and it needs general cleanup and spa treatment. This was actually my ONLY trash find. Here's a pic.

Trash Find

My best "trash find" was a Power Drive Hoover in dark blue. I cant remember the model but it was the machine that came out after the Powermax/Hoover Concept thingy. Awesome machine, it only needed a new bottom plate as the original was cracked to pieces. It still had all the attachments to. I sold it to a friend who is still using it today!

Kirby Gsix

My best trash find was my first Kirby, a Gsix 2001 Limited Edition in decent shape, left beside a dumpster in the apartment complex where I lived. It needed a fresh bag (what used vacuum cleaner doesn't?) and shortly thereafter, a belt. I've still got it and it's still one of my favorite machines.

I was driving to pick up pizza with my 5 or 6 year old daughter at the time, this was about 17 years ago, and as we were driving, she said "Daddy, there was a vacuum in the garbage back there with a turquoise hose", I said to my self hmmm, turquoise hose, let me turn around, well it was a 1961 Whirlpool Imperial, it was the vacuum, hose and a few attachments in the caddy. I picked it up, took it to my store the following day, it was in Okay condition, had a few scratches, I think part of the raised logo was broke, but I cleaned it up, put it on eBay and it sold for over $200.00 at the time. I put the money in my Daughter's bank for her, that was a nice find, I regret selling it LOL.

Vintage: Kirby Classic III, needed nothing but a good cleaning. Cleaned up and worked great!
Modern: Dyson DC25, All attachments, good condition overall, nothing wrong but a nasty clog in the extension wand. Both trash finds.

Mine would have been a metal Royal I found on a trash pile in the Wash DC area. The machine was in fine shape-ran OK.It just needed a bag, rollerbrush and belt.Sold it to someone that needed a vacuum. That was before I collected vacuums.

My best roadside find was a pristine green Airway Rugmaster power nozzle with the original hose. Sadly no vacuum with it but I already had the vacuum. I also found a mint condition hardly used Electrolux Super J matching automatic upright (the first)
