Fred has succeeded in infecting me with vacuum passion! I now have two TriStar Compacts. ( How did THAT happen ? ) One needs work the other just sucks along beautifully!

The one that needs work just arrived and I dug in right away. Its RED so I couldn't turn it down.

Its a TriStar and its a two speed so there's a lot more wiring inside that usual!

The bumper is nice and flexible and there aren't many paint chips,I think it will come back nicely for a DD .

I used the Speed Queen

to beat the dirt out of the cloth bag-- with bleach. Now its drying in the sun - fresh as a daisy.

Welcome to the dark side! The Compact/TriStar is a great little machine; you'll absolutely love it!

Glad you got one -- err -- two of them for yourself. Isn't there a third "parts machine" on its way, too? I recall you trying to pack mine in your luggage when you discovered how neat of a little machine it is.

I did try and pack yours in my

luggage , Gansky turned me in, and I didn't know you had photographic evidence - oh deer !

They are wonderful machines - so powerful and compact - like a dumpling. Little painted dumplings running 'round the floors !!

Your are right - what a floor tool !!

Thanks for taking the time to photograph your tear down. I have an identical red two-speed that needs bearings so I've saved the photos for when I tear into mine. BTW if you didn't already know not all the two speed models were red and polished aluminum, some were red with grey speckled paint on the handle and lid. I think the polished aluminum was the initial design but am not sure. The metal handle is unique to the two speed models, I think with that handle it is one of the best balanced and easiest canisters to carry around.

I agree with the handle it is easier to carry. There is a real trick to removing that handle BTW!
You have to reach under the switch from inside, hold the outer nut with the edge of a screwdriver and twist from inside to loosen the nut. Then you have to spin the nut off with the flat blade and remove the handle- this is after removing the front pin that holds the handle front and lid assembly.

I love all the colors these come in - too bad HooverCelebrity caught me.

all bearings changed, mechanism and body cleaned and reassembled. Ready for another 20 years !

I do like the RED !!

I stole the bearings from a

one speed Lamb for the two speed lamb. So much newer, cleaner quieter.

Those Lamb motors are a puzzle to take apart and reassemble.

Great job on the tristar rebuilt i watch the video and she sounds great on both speeds . Do you have a hose for it ?

I do have a hose and power head which I am working on. I need a floor tool and the little tools, I'll have to hunt ebay.

For tools for it look on ebay under tristar vacuum theres alot there for power head try under vintage vacuum or tristar . A period correct power head would be the red eureka style power head whit the power selector .
I hope you find everything your looking for . I own a Compact Electra C9 my self and its a great work horse .
