I have been after one of these World Vacs ever since I used one when I was a kid to vacuum my dad's office. It has literally been twenty-odd years before I've been able to get my hands on one! I cleaned out the motor, which was full of fluff and dirt. Apparently at one point in time something have you got sucked up and it cracked the bearing plate behind the fan. So I guess dirt and everything got blown back into the motor. I was able to repair the crack and get everything cleaned out and looking good inside. I put a new build on it and it already had a new bag in it, it runs great and doesn't sound too bad! I also had to repair the switch retainer, which is the white plastic piece in the picture.

Those were great vacuums. A little on the noisy side but cleaned well.

I remember seeing these in the JCPenney catalog. I always thought these were good looking cleaners. It has the belt view window right? I think one of these World Vacs also included a floor brush that stored in a bag on the machine, not sure if it was this version or not though.

My friend had one of these

One of my good friends had one of these. She bought in 93 or 94 at Sam’s Club. I remember using it. It had very stiff bristles. She had it for a long time but finally sold it in a garage sale we had before she was moving to unload some stuff. A guy bought it saying he would use it in his horse barn! We thought it would become a mess. Though I think something may have already broken on it that I had to patch together but can’t really remember. Probably something having to do with the height adjustment.

I often thought “works vac” was a weird gimmick they came up with. What would make it so “worldly”?

From what I read, Eureka donated a percentage of the sales of their vacuums bearing the World Vac name to save forests.
