Yeah I don't like pump style nozzle/handles. They have always been uncomfortable to me. That was why I went with the older style hoses.

Andy,
You got a great deal and that machine will be running years from now. They did change the shape and feel of the new hose handle and you can now either have it locked on or off or still run when squeezed.
I never liked those huge gas pump handles like the Kenmores,Hoover and Filter Queen either. I don't even really like the one on my Electrolux Epic 8000. Of course that is just a personal preferance of mine.

I was just talking to a Rainbow expert yesterday and was told on a digital water lift scale it will pull 95-96.
I think my Dyson Dc07 does have more suction at the end of the hose but it is so hard to use the hose. The machine keeps falling over and I don't like the brush roll on my DC07 or messing with the dirt cup. I do love the Dyson tools and design.
I have the DC23 which I like except messing with the dirt bin and it has a short hose and cord but great suction.

Have you got the DC23 motorhead? If the DC07 had that brushroll id be a happy boy! Im always on the look out for a brushroll that could be modifed to fit the DC07!

and when emptying a dyson my advice would be to put the bin in the, so far that you can control the flap to drop slowly! the seperate the clear bin, dont take it of though! twist the cyclone one way and the bin the other as the flap is opening. click it back together and as you lift the dysons bin/cyclone out close the lid on the edge of the bin, so you dont have to touch it. Quick wipe with a damp cloth and back to dysoning!

Yes my Rainbow was a very good investment and has been very good to me. My grandma even approved of my purchase and that women could squeeze money for a rock. She always taught me how to shop. So when she approved I knew I had a good deal.

I like mine specially the aquamate 3.
We have a Rainbow E2 we bought on Ebay years ago. I don't like the powerhead either, it seems to be too flexible in it's movement.
We have 4 large dogs and we find that even if we vacuumed three times a week the water reservoir clogs up in a very short time. Plus the suction is not all that great.
What we do like about it is we run it after house cleaning with either the Pine or Fresh Air scented Rainbow scents. It makes the house smell nice.
We switched to a Miele about 6 years ago for our daily driver vac.
We have 4 large dogs and we find that even if we vacuumed three times a week the water reservoir clogs up in a very short time. Plus the suction is not all that great.

I am not sure about the water lift on the previous machines. I know the first E Series had about the same as my SE. I would assume that after they went to the brush less motor they would be the same. I think the BIG difference is in the new power nozzle which it better sealed and has 60% increase in air flow. You can tell the first time you use it that it has much better air flow.

I have never used the power nozzle from the E Series or the E2. I know I did not like the power nozzle that was on my SE. It too big and bulky and flipped flopped when you went from one surface to the next. It must have cleaned ok because I never got much dirt when I followed it with my Kirby or one of my Hoovers uprights.
You can tell a big difference with the new power nozzle. It is so easy to use and the handle stays up. I like the led lighting and the revolving corner brushes get so close to chair legs and around furniture. It is also much quieter. Of course it is much nicer to be able to change to the floor brush and use the same hose and the all direct connections are an improvement over my old SE and I like the fact they changed the design of the hose handle. Now the power nozzle can be locked on or off or you can set it to be used like a trigger which is nice if you are cleaning small throw rugs. Also has the suction control right by your thumb.

Whirlcool, these are my thoughts exactly! If the machine had super suction and a sturdy feel to it I wouldn't at all mind dumping the dirty water after every room! It just seems that everything on him is hardwork, unfortunately!
I had a boxador and a yellow lab and so I had lots of pet hair all the time. Durring shedding season I usedthe 4 quart tank which made the cleaning easier and I could get more done that way and didn't have to refill as often. I could usually get the whole house cleaned in one or two fillings of water. I also would vacuum two or three times a week also just to help keep the animal hair down which helped. I never had a problem with the sepertor or the tank clogging.

The thing that gives rainbow their ability is airflow! I have heard people say before that air flow cleans, not suction. For example, I have an SE with the box style PN and it doesn't have the greatest suction, but I know it is getting my carpet clean because of the huge amount of sand and grit in the water. As a further experiment to this, I used my Se with the box Power nozzle and if I lifted the front on the corner of my area rug, it lifted the whole corner of the rug up! I used the same machine with the PE nozzle and that one wouldnt even lift the rug the slightest bit. Those "performance" power nozzles were rainbows problem from the SE PE up until the E2 blue/platinum. But with the latest model, the problems have been fixed with the power nozzle, so they once again have a power nozzle that actually makes use of the machine's amazing airflow.

Sorry guys, I looked at our Rainbow again and it's a Rainbow SE machine. I looked at a photo of an E2 and that's definitely not what we have.
Yes, the power nozzle could be better. When you push it forward it flip flops side to side a little. Could a new power head be used on a SE? Maybe that will solve the problem.

You can get a 4 quart on E-Bay at a decent cost. I got my four quart when I bought my vacuum.

I had the SE for 18 years. Mine was and still is a very good machine but you should check out the Rainbow web site and take a look at the new machine. So much more user friendly. That is the only reason I bought a new machine.
The new dolly,Hurrican motor and compleley redesigned power nozzle really make a big difference.
I have had mine 5 months and NOT ONE TIME has the new power nozzle fell over. The new water pan design is much easier to empty. I know JUST what you are saying about the SE but you are still trapping the dirt and filth not just redistributing it around the room. Check out the web site and let us know what you think.

I looked at the Rainbowsystem website. The new machines sure have been updated, haven't they? My aunt has a D2 (the chrome dome) that she has had since the 70's.

I saw the fragrances, but I didn't see the big bottle of the clean smell stuff. We used to buy it at a Rainbow dealer before they went out of business. It was kind of a bluish color fluid. When you put it in the Rainbow water your house would smell hospital clean.
Has the motor been increased in power?

I have an SE and I never use it.... I don't like making mud and it's just so cumbersome to set up and deal with and clean up after....

They still make the deordorizer but now it is called "clean air". Also the water lift has been increased from about 65 on my old SE to 95 on my new machine. It is a difference you can feel at the hose hose end but the thing with the Rainbow has always been the constant air flow. I have several vacuums with very strong suction but are not really that good at cleaning.
I have seen so many people try and use a machine with a clogged bag but it still pickes up the surface litter and fluffs the rug nap so they assume the rug is clean.
I have used one of my most powerful machines that gets very high ratings by consumer reports and has tremendous suction at the hose end but it just pushes the dirt around and you end up having dust on the blinds,end tables although it makes the carpet look great.
So much depends on what type of flooring you have and how you use and care for your machine and no one "best" machine in all applications. In my case ,I am very sensitive to dust and I just hate buying bags and every time I use my Rainbow it is removing the dirt from my house and I don't have to store that filth in a closet. Rainbow is not the right sweeper for everyone and I would be the first to admit that fact.
I think that it is interesting that in today's world a company has made so many "user" improvements. So many times today you buy a new appliance and all you see are cost cutting and cheaper made products. Almost every thing they have done with the new machine is an improvement over my old SE.

Is there a place where we can see pictures of the different Rainbow power nozzles? I picked up a used one today and I don't have the faintest idea which one it is. I would guess it's from the early 80's - quite wide, rectangular, with woodgrain print on top. It's kinda floppy.
I'll look closer when I'm at to see if there's info on it or post a picture later.
