With all the rain we have had this year, everything is green and growing. This is the summer back yard at Tarantula Arms. I love all the seasons, they each have their charms. This is summer at it's best. Flowers blooming and everything is green. I guess I like this since summer in LA meant brown landscape. Everything is at it's peak here and at night lightning bugs. If it gets a bit hot and humid, you can enjoy it from inside with the air conditioning. Right now it is about perfect.

Well .....

Let me tell you about Summer here in central California. We get less than 12 inches of rain a year. When it rains, it is only from maybe mid October to April., then no more for the rest of the year. Average temp is upper 90s. It is normal to have a prolonged stretch of triple digit temp days. The last two years have been drought years. We got less than half of the average yearly rainfall, and wildfires are a very real danger. Temps this year got hot way early, in late April/early May. Already had two weeks of triple digit temps and getting ready to start a third. This isn't even our hottest time of the year. I'm dreading August and September. It's really funny when what passes for winter here arrives, and people are running around in scarves and gloves, and complaining about how cold it is. Winter only lasts a few months and then it's back in the oven again. So as you can see, I'm not a great fan of summer here.

This year it hasn't been bad. The temperatures have been pretty decent up here, but I haven't been able to enjoy it to much because of work and school. I really wish we had some good hard storms up here. I love storms and bad weather.

My Hollyhocks

Another one I couldn't grow in CA. They are biennial. You plant them one year and they don't bloom until next year. I was hoping I remembered to plant some last year and did or they reseeded. I didn't plant any this year so next year will be a surprise or a disappointment. Good English Cottage plants. Love them!

What beautiful photographs!!

I do love summer for mowing the lawn and general gardening (plus lying on the sun lounger of course) but hate it when the pollen comes out and wreaks havoc with my hayfever.

WELL....

I HATE loathe and despise it, Im highly allergic to pollen, so ive always associated flowers with a runny nose and swollen watery eyes, I have it written down, when I die ,flowers are forbidden to be in the funeral home or on my grave, this probably sounds extreme, but they sure do make me miserable, I like cold colder coldest Winter, I can breathe then, I can go outside and cut wood or whatever and not be dripping with sweat, but most of all NO BUGS!!!!!LOL, My rant about hot weather.

Who Doesn't Like Summer? Me!

I despise it! All the humidity & heat, it's next to impossible to keep from sweating up a storm & getting stinky when you're outside or not in an air-conditioned room. Plus my allergies act up the most in the summer. Give me fall or spring anyday....

Glad to see I'm not the only one who had a bit of a grudge against summer.

I do love winter for getting out to shovel snow from the drive way et cetera and breathe that lovely cold crisp air into my lungs. That's about the only thing I love snow for though, it's awful for driving conditions and just about everything else.

Looking at the weather for Furnace Creek, California - I think this must be the hottest place on Earth at the moment - 50 Celcius, or 121 F, I cant imagine what it must be like to walk outdoors in that sweltering heat. Its no wonder they call it Death Valley.
Here in Sunny Stoke, its showing 29.2 C on my yard thermometer, but about 26 C in the shade (About 80 F).
Summer is OK as I work nights and sleep in the afternoon in a blacked out room with the A/C on.
Fortunately in the UK, it is rare for the temperature to exceed 33 C (91 F), although it sometimes does in London and the South East of the country.

It's been like a pizza oven here.

It's been 92,93 with very high humidity, (feels like 98). It got very dark last evening, then, it rained, finally. It was only 80 this morning. I like the nice warm sun, it'svery good for you. I like not having to wear a sweater, jacket, or coat. I like the lawn manicured. I love to plant flowers. But, where I live, (the base of the Pocono Mountains) it's breathtaking here in the Fall. I like a very short Winter. Again, it's very pretty here, but, I hate those heating bills. Are we ever happy? I enjoy yhte nice things Summer brings, but sometimes taht heat can be oppressive.

We are currently in a drought. We received about 2 inches of rain last week and some hail, but still very below average.  Our high was 96 last week, sometimes 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, and we should continue to cool down for the rest of the season. I personally prefer Autumn to Summer. There is so much more to do in the state of Arizona then since it's much cooler and any vegetation to speak of is much more interesting. The desert looks practically the same year round, but here in Northern AZ the Aspens change color and provide beautiful hikes.  I'd love to get out east and experience a four season year. It must be wonderful to watch your landscape evolve and pass through time, instead of the drastic and sudden changes I only know of.

I ==LOVE== summer and hot weather. It can't get too hot for me, as long as it's a dry heat like we have out here. What's awful is the humid heat in the Southeast where you get wet just walking around.

I have terrible allergies.

god bless the inventor of "Loratadine". One pill a day, and I'm good to go. WE are very lucky where I live, as we truly get all four seasons. I just don't want to wish the summer away. I love to walk around Lake Scranton. I'll post some photos of the pretty sights around here soon.

Im in Birmingham, West Midlands (the Heart of England) :d and its soooooooo HOT! It was soo frustrating walking home from school, its not that far either, but it was boiling and I got a tan :( NOOO!!!!!!!!

I love the South...

But I DO NOT love the humidity and heat, there has been at least one thunderstorm every other day here for a month, everything is sopping wet! and HOT!!!90 or near it, I like 50 and below!!!

I used to really hate summer ...

... when I was 65 pounds heavier.

I was miserable when it went over 80 degrees.

These days, I barely even notice the heat until it hits 100.

However, I have a new reason not to like summer: AIR CONDITIONING. Everyone keeps it cranked up so damn high. Now it's a pain in the ass to have to carry a sweater around everywhere.

While I do enjoy tending to my geraniums and my tomatoes, I don't care for any other part of summer, its too hot, humid and it wrecks havoc on my sinuses leaving me miserable most of the time.

My preference is definetly late fall and winter, I enjoy the change from the cool crisp air and the autumn colors into the cold snowy winter. I enjoy the cold air and I find it cozy to be in sweaters and a long top coat, I also enjoy the coziness of the indoors then with a fire burning and the enjoyment of preparing all the lovely baked goods and cold weather dishes that aren't enjoyed the rest of the year. The smell of fresh yeast breads, banana bread, fruit pies, and freshly fried paczki, or the smell of fresh spaghetti sauce or beef stew simmering.

I am also a strange bird that truly enjoys winter driving, I look forward to hopping in the Buick and going for a joy ride when there are 6" of snow on our rural roads and just go visit people.

I Guess I Am Still Relishing

The change of seasons. Having lived in Southern California for 21 years, I still have fond memories of it's almost perfect climate. No humidity, no mosquitos and almost endless sunshine. Of course, what goes along with that are earthquakes, fires and drought and really only two seasons rain and no rain. No place is perfect. I guess because I was raised with the change of seasons here in the Midwest I always missed it and after 13 years of being back I still enjoy it. If you get too tired of one season, the next is around the corner. I love the rebirth of spring, the good things about summer, the beauty of fall and the approach of cooler weather and even the winter, although I really get tired of it around February. I will say I still can't get over the beauty of the first real snowfall of the season. I should have titled this thread - the change of seasons - not who doesn't like summer. I guess I got mostly folks who don't like it. People in Chicago love summer! It reminds them that they were able to live through winter![this post was last edited: 7/8/2013-21:33]
