VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Well, last Thursday,

I was given a 2 hour window...2-4 p.m. At almost 5, "FRANK" came. It took him all of 5 minutes to correct it. BUT, my 'duct work' was frozen. So, it's been unplugged, melting away the last of the ice.
I had to be in the dentist's chair at 5:16. JUST made it. '
I'm glad that is finally over.
We'll see how things go .

FINALLY, the freezer closes

completely. I'll plug it back in tonight. Last night, I opened the freezer, and a HUGE , thick sheet of ice slammed out, onto the floor. It was lodged under the drawer. I think I saw Yukon Cornelius in there. "Silver and Gold.......".
So, tonight, a little wipe with water and baking soda, and we should be good to go .

Well,

My refrigerator is whole, once again. Everything is working fine, as far as I can tell.
Thanks, again, Andy, for your concern and help. I was told by "Frank", who has repaired numerous units, that MAYTAG made over 200,000units with problems. They issued the 'postcards' in waves. It must be a nightmare there. ALL claims HAD to be made BY Jan 21.

I had that same problem with my French door Refridgerator w/freezer below. Lowes came and installed it in less then 5 minutes hauled out the old one never told me what to set it at just left. Fast forward 5 months later water everywhere from the ice maker and frozen ice on the bottom and around the fan and lower vents. Called Whirlpool they referred me to a local man who cancelled the appointment 10 minutes before showing up. Called Lowes this time gave me another local person they came right out told me the drain hose was plugged up and too small so he took it out and replaced it w/larger one and told me that it was fixed also set the controls on top told me to clean the coil underneath the front and back air vents which I do. So far 4yrs later it's fine no problems but the Maytag washer/dryer that is a completely different story and very unhappy about that!!!

Glad it's fixed

My Whirlpool side x side is exactly 2 years old. No problems so far (knock on wood). The last Whirlpool side x side that this current one replaced was around 13 years old. Over those years it had to have 3 repairs and we also had to replace the ice maker. This one I have now is very similar to the other one aside from the fact that this one feels much more cheaply made. I will say this as a side note: the Whirlpool filters vs the generic filters. The OEM wins by a long shot. The generic filter we tried was terrible.

Yes I get the OEM filters too the off brand doesn't seem to fit right and when the water kicks on it used to pop out. I don't know how long it will last it wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive one but I did get the extended warranty on everything new first time I've bought Whirlpool/Maytag so we shall see.

Mark, I feel better that I at least know

someone who went through the same thing. It was like "Ice Capades" in my kitchen!!My 'letter' stated that it involved the units with the FREEZER ON THE BOTTOM. What they described was EXACTLY what was happening.
The 'repair' took all of 5 minutes. AND, the part they repaired was a newer fix, gone wrong. I was also told that people who spend thousands on the more expensive units are buying the same 'guts', only having fancier doors, shelves, etc.
It kept me up worrying about that loud motor, potential fire, etc.
Now,all is quiet at the 'palace'.

Yes John it would be nice if they told you what to look out for but that would be too easy lol. Strange how major appliances always seem to go out on holidays, my washer went out on Christmas, 2yrs later the refrigerator went out around right before New Years and the dryer went out last year with me opening up the door and a flame shoots out and it's not even gas. If/when these break who knows what I'll get next but they most likely will last about 6-8yrs and that's stretching it.

I am so sorry that all this has happen. Even before I worked for Whirlpool I have always been a consumer of all their brands products and brands. I have never had any issues and have always been extremely happy with them. Even if I ever did need any kind of service I was always able to get amazing customer service. I know in the past they have had specific issues, mostly with availability. they had a lot of problems Home Depot and how Home Depot was handling their products. But I believe that those issues have for the most part been resolved. Nobody has heard anything about any legal issues so they are really keeping things quiet for now. I'm not completely sure either. All the same I am happy that you were able to get fixed up.

Thank you so far so good and I'm only going on what the repair people were saying for the longevity that they've seen. As far as getting a Miele or Bosch there is no one around that will touch those, that's why I went with something that can be fixed locally and so far my Bosch dishwasher is working great w/no problems so I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that.
