I bought a "Maytag" stainless steel refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom.
It apparently has a blocked drain tube, causing massive ice build up on the floor of the freezer. I was away for Christmas. I came home to find the freezer frozen shut! I've been getting mailings from Whirlpool, who owns Maytag. HUGE RUNAROUND! I have to get THEIR repair people to come (8 hour window) to replace the tube.
Has anyone else been having this issue?
John

I mean... of course you have to get THEIR repair people to repair it. That's kind of a given.

You should be able to talk directly with a Maytag authorized repair place and they should take care of everything.

Let me try and help with this. I used to work for the Whirlpool Corporation and still have some contacts. Part of what I used to do was schedule service appointments. Let me see if I can find a service center for you.

Quick question. Where did you purchase the refrigerator from and how long ago? Any days work better than the other and morning or afternoon?

Andy

Let me make some phone calls. Have you called Whirlpool directly? I have friends that work in that department for the mom and pop shops as we call them. They can either get me a number or get. E a certified service provider. Some times if you gondirectly through Whirlpool Service you will have a much better chance of getting an appointment skmply because they have the service provider schedule and will make the appointment on your behalf. Bare with me and I will be in contact with you soon.

Ive been gone from Whirlpool for a while so I'm not hearing everything. Although if its a model that I'm thinking about I know a while back there were some serious problems. But I thought it was only with availability. I'm trying to get a hold of my friends Marnie and Sherry who are still with the company and in our old department. Trade Partners which was our department is the front line of orders and usually where we know everything going on on defects delivery, service and everything else. It's an entire building in itself.

Hey John.

I just talked to Marnie a d she has not heard anything about any class action suites or recalls. And she works in that department. I send you a email through vacuum land. If you could please send me the model and serial number we can try and find out exactly what is going on.

I bought a Whirlpool 22 cu. ft with top single door fridge and rollout freezer...love it, mine will be 3 yrs. old in April  I just pulled my paperwork out. I bought a 3 yr. extended warranty..I just read the book and not clear if it works after the manufacturer's warranty or starts with date of purchase..the wording says could be either. Guess I'll have to call them. I have not received anything from Whirlpool regarding a recall. Hopefully no news is good news!

Update..just called Lowe's warranty nbr. and was told warranty started with date of purchase which was 4/4/17..was not sure. He also checked on any factory recalls and found nothing..yay!

Well, GOOD NEWS!!!!

I believe they are coming Tuesday to "replace the drain tube". I opened the freezer this a.m.... full of snow! I asked if I have to remove anything from the freezer. I was told, "No".

Thanks, everyone, for listening, and ANDY, for you diligence.
I asked "Melissa" if she's been getting many calls about this. She replied, "Oh, YES, we have".
It must be horrendous.
I hope this solves everything.

Was Melissa with Whirlpool? If so I know who she is. I trained her and if it's the same Melissa then I know yoy are in good hands.

When I talked to Marnie the other day she was saying thst there are no pending class action suites and asked a couple of higher up as well who have stated the same thing. She was worried you may have been taken into some kind of scam. If you need anymore help please by all means let me know. I have a lot of friends in that department who can point me in the right direction. Working for Whirlpool may have sucked towards the end... But I will always push, support and promote their products. My house could be a showroom in itself.

Glad things are going to work out

Andy

If your freezer has enough frost buildup to make it a challenge for the repair guy, I highly advise you defrost the fridge a day in advance. The last thing you want after all this hassle is to have a repair guy come out, tell you to defrost it and call him next week.

If so, though, take pics so you can prove the fault.
