Hello vacuumland i just went into my local vacuum store and asked about their kirbys and they said that they had a whole ton of old kirby vacuums and if i wanted they could give me an old kirby that has not been worked on for free.

Which one should i get i was leaning toards the tradition it is just a beautiful machine or should i ask for a dual sanitronic 80 (also a beatiful machine) just wondering what you guys thought!

Thanks -Lars

That's a great offer! I appreciate people like that who are generous and not just out for the "almighty" buck.

They are both classics and agree with you that they're both attractive.

Some things to consider:

-The D80 was manufactured from 1967-1970, has a shorter nozzle, less amps, and only has a shake-out bag.
-The 3CB/Tradition was manufactured from 1979-1981 and some machines were equipped with a disposable bag (which you could convert to if the one you're considering is a shake-out).

There are other differences, but these are the main ones as far as I know.

Let us know what you choose.

Kirby Tradition

If you go with a Tradition, I strongly recommend finding one with the dump bag option. The paper bag version was Kirby's first attempt at this and they botched it by engineering a small diameter fill tube that ruins air flow. Even if they can't find a dump bag version, take one home and shop Ebay because I see new Tradition dump bags there regularly. The conversion process is very simple.
