Those early Ls in the off-white/turquoise combination are one of my favorite Luxes, and they are not easy to come by complete, with all the correct white/turquoise tools and white/turquoise PN.

If yours is in good shape, you have a real treasure.

@Justin

I'm very fond of my 1205. It's a good vacuum, I love the color... blue is my favorite color. I don't have a PN-1, so I have been using a PN-5. I replaced the chewed-up hose with the new bojack hose with the PN switch under the handle grip. I'd like to get a mini nozzle for cleaning the furniture and maybe paint the PN to match the vacuum's color. By the way, what is the name of the 1205's color?

Justin-you have been misinformed. There is indeed good quality paint specifically designed for plastics. I see it everywhere now and have used it with success. 'Krylon Fusion For Plastic'. No priming and no sanding. Just do a good chemical prep and follow the directions.

Kevin:

I am well acquainted with Krylon Fusion. It works fine on many things, but it does not repeat not repeat NOT work well on something that gets bumped a great deal, as a PN does. I made that mistake, trying to turn a turquoise PN-1 hood into a white one.

It was a disaster of - you should pardon the expression - titanic proportions.

My favorite electrolux for pure aesthetic would be the LX. Incredible mid century design, big, makes an expensive statement, and just overall a magnificent machine.

My favorite electrolux for pure practicality would be the Olympia One. I purchased one brand new, still have it, and it operates flawlessly. Powerful, fairly quiet, very easy to use, a no fuss machine. It still looks brand new. I do not abuse my vacuums. They are treated like old friends.

Aerus/Electrolux needs to go back to the past in order to compete in the future. Their new vacuums are overpriced, over noisy, and just not worth the effort. Go back to the Olympia One, redesign it with hepa filtration, make it quiet, and price it competitively with Miele.

Amen Richard. CompactElectra, WOW,,that is awsome. your Super J is absolutely beautiful!

Everyone knows beauty is in the eye of the beyholder, but how anyone can say that a GoldenJ/Super J is ugly,,i just cant see it.

I once got to see a brand spanking new 1205 out of the box, around 1973-74.

A neighbor friend of my Aunt had just bought one. She knew i liked vacuums, and was visiting next door, so she called to say come over for coffee and check out my new Electrolux! The salesman had just left.

He had left the Electrolux set up and plugged in, in the middle of her 1950s livingroom with sculptured gray carpet,,and evidently took the empty box with him.

I went running over there,in post and in haste (about 10 yrs old) and ran strait into the livingroom.

There it was its all its glory,,,a BRAND NEW NEVER USED fresh out of the box 1205 with blue hose plugged in, and its PN2 plugged into the top of the hose(on the back plug,,you could plug in either front or back on those hose plugs).
Blue attachments, chromne wands, and the blue flip over floor brush,,still in a little box.
I remember the orange lettering on the top of the blower door was BRIGHT,,like glow in the darkish. The chrome PN shined like a new mirror. And the brand new ELECTROLUX logo on the sides.

OH my heart ached i wanted one so bad!,,,,or even to use this one for alittle while!

I didnt touch it,,as the lady said not to,,,guess she was affraid i would ruin her new vacuum or something.

And, Grandma had taught us, DONT TOUCH!

Funny thing,,many many yrs later after that lady died, i just happend to see the stuff layed out for sale at the auction. There was the 1205,,,or at least A 1205,,i assumed it was the same one. Was all dirty, beat up and evidently rode hard and put away wet. No hose, The cord winder was shot, and the motor sounded tired. ( i plugged it in),And, the PN was locked up. I tried pushing it around with my finger. The PN brush roll was worn down to practically nothing, just a few short little tuffts of bristles left.
Was kinda sad to see it that way. Evidently the old lady had really used it!

There's no better feeling is there?!

I rembember when i was a little kid and my grandmother got the ambassador III i use and love today...
(picture above)

I pulled it out of the box and just was in awe, There nothing like knowning you will be the first one to use this vacuum.... Best feeling in the world!

my favorite is the automatic e. This was my great grandmothers electrolux. These machines have so much power and are so lightweight. Hard to beleive it still runs perfectly. I love the color as well.

My Epic...

Of all the Electrolux's I've had over the years. I believe I like my Epic the best.
Oh, I know it's all plastic. Being an old-timer, I hate plastic, but it does have its advantages. Because the Epic is light weight and easy to drag around, it's my daily driver.

It's A Toss-Up!

Can't decide for sure what is my favorite Lux, but have narrowed it down to the XXX, Automatic E, or G. I have one of each and like all 3 for their power and looks. Also family connections--Mom had a XXX when I was growing up, until I used it for a trade-in on the 966 Electro-Hygiene I bought for her when I was selling them.
My paternal Grandparents had an Automatic E and a Filtex. When I was in jr. high school my Aunt & I would go to there house on Saturday or Sunday afternoons and she would do their laundry while I vacuumed, and I would always use the Lux. Didn't like the Filtex for some reason, which escapes me now.
And my Uncle Red, who sold Electro-Hygienes before I was born, sold Electrolux in the mid 60's. When I was 9 years old we spent Christmas with them, and while we were there he did a demo of the Lux G.

Fusion or epoxy based paint will work-they chemically bond to the plastic. I have no idea how you prepped the surface. Your "Titanic" reference is beneath me to comment. Nice try though....

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have painted lots of plastic with very good results. First, I wash it in good ol' soap and water. Then, I wash it with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). Then I spray the item with a sandless primer. I then spray on a couple of coats of SEM plastic/vinyl paint. Be sure to allow the first coat to dry! It's VERY durable and is used in the auto industry to spray out plastic and vinyl on cars. It can even be used on floor mats with very good results. Let it cure for several days and you'll have a very durable finish. I've used that process a number times when restoring vacuums and I've never had a problem with it.

Kevin:

"I have no idea how you prepped the surface."

For once, you have made a statement with which I cannot possibly disagree. You have NO IDEA. Yet you make other statements that are variations on "I'm right - you're wrong."

I would appreciate it if in future, you simply didn't respond to me. Seeing your handle in a thread in which I'm participating is becoming unpleasant, due to your overly confrontational posting style.

Rattle can jobs can work, given proper prep and usage. Not el cheapo types, but a good quality rattle can job can hold up in my experience. I believe that Rego guy referenced some weeks ago does use the rattle can. Nothing wrong with that

Sandy:

If you dislike the floating rear wheels on a PN5 or PN6, there is a way to make those rear wheels stationary, like the Aerus-made TriStar MG powerheads are. There was a version of the PN6, called the PN6A, that has slots beside the rear wheels; this is because this is the commercial version of the PN6, & it did NOT have the floating rear wheels....rather, it used axles & had fixed wheels. The "shaft cover" for the rear wheels, which hides the floating assembly, also has two slots in it.

Here are the parts needed to convert a PN5 or PN6 into a PN6A with the fixed rear wheels:

45347: Rug Cleaner Body-PN1724. $43.99
45123: Rear Whl.Shaft Cover-Pow.Noz. $4.99
45125: Wheel Shaft-Pow.Noz. $2.99

For the wheel shaft, you need 2 of them....1 for each wheel. I recently ordered these parts to convert my PN5 & PN6, & noticed the PN digs into the carpet pile much better now. For anyone reading this & wanting to try this with a newer model Electrolux or Aerus-Electrolux, the PN1724 base with the slots has been used on the original Electrolux Guardian onwards; the present Aerus Lux Classic, Aerus Lux Legacy & Aerus Guardian Ultra all use the PN1724 base as well. All that would need to be ordered would be the "shaft cover" & 2 wheel shafts.

If you're so inclined, try converting your PN5 over, & let me know what you think, Sandy. I'm sure you will notice a big difference if you do this & put the newer style brushroll in.

Of course it works, in spite of Sandy's negative opinions to the contrary.

If only it was that easy; to waive your fairy wand and silence all that oppose you.

Kevin:

That comment you just made about Sandy "If only it was that easy; to waive your fairy wand and silence all that oppose you", was WAY OUT OF LINE!!

I personally may not agree with Sandy's opinions or comments on every topic, either....but I think Sandy makes a valuable contribution to this forum, & I value his right to have an opinion, & there are some things we DO agree on....such as YOU being quite rude, negative & confrontational yourself!

Fred, I think it would only be appropriate to ask Kevin to make a public apology to Sandy in the Off-Topic Forum. These kind of comments & statements are improper & shouldn't be allowed on a forum such as this.
