Mine would have to be my Electrolux model 30 (xxx). I just love the sound of it, and its strong suction is just unbelievable for a 63 year old machine!

Daniel :-)

P.S: I really like your model 86 lux! I have an identical model, and it's nowhere near the great condition yours is in. You lucked out with the attachments too!

Mine Is....

....The American 1205.

It's an important model in Electrolux history, because it was the first to address something that had become a problem for Electrolux: dated styling. As excellent as the company's Models G and L were, their styling harked back to the 1950s, and other manufacturers were offering much more up-to-date looks. A Lady Kenmore of the mid-1960s had it all over a G in the appearance department, especially when you stop to think that "space-age" looks were important to consumers at the time.

The 1205 fixed all that; it was a very modern-looking cleaner, yet still kept all the traditional Electrolux virtues of quiet and long-lasting quality. The only drawbacks were the first clunky system for the electric supply to the power nozzle, and the power nozzle itself was noisy, something Electrolux never did really fix.

I have mentioned my lust for the 1205 I saw in the window of the Electrolux agency that was located two doors down from where I worked in the early '70s. That strong desire to possess one was the result of its beautiful presentation by the salesmen, who had polished all its aluminum until it looked like sterling silver, and rubbed out and waxed the paint until it gleamed like a new Cadillac. I could not afford one at the time, but I have owned several since; I will never forget that first look.

My Model G! We use it every day! This is the pic when I first got it.. I am going to be sending it to a man for a rebuild in the next couple of weeks so it keeps running strong!

Lux 2100

My fave of all time because of it's state of the art looks back in the day and still is. It is reliable, heavy duty, great power nozzle and very good filtration. The indicator lites on the hood are appealing and do thier job. The plastic is very forgiving, you can stand on it, throw it down the stairs and it will keep on ticking. Long live the 2100.!

I Also....

....Have a soft spot for the Model L, which is so lightweight, reliable and long-lived. Alone among Electroluxes of its time, it gets the job done without a single unneeded bell or whistle. My late Model L (the gold one introduced at the time of the Golden J/Super J), actually has more suction than my 1205, not that the suction of the 1205 is in any way inadequate.

I've always liked the look of many of the Canadian models! But I suppose my favorite of the models I've owned is the Model L. The first one I ever owned was the brown L that was given to me in 1982 by my Grandmother. I'd just graduated from college and was setting up housekeeping for the first time. She bought it at a garage sale for $5 and it came complete with the power nozzle. I like them because they are simple, versatile, and straightforward. Plus, they are easy to work on.

I love the super J's... and Olympia models too. I have an Olympia And would give my left..uhhh... pinky toe to have one! Lol if you look closely are my profile picture that is what I am using... it was my mother's.. I really dont know or remember what ever happened to it.. :(

I'm having a hard time choosing too ...

I grew up with a Model XXX (which, sadly, I no longer have); I own an Epic 6500SR with a 2100 hose and PN-5 nozzle, and I would love to have a Diamond Jubilee or Marquise. All of these machines are my favorite American Electroluxes!

As for the Canadian models: sorry, I don't have a favorite one only because I haven't been exposed to them enough to really develop an opinion. All of the ones I've seen here are quite nice, however.

I also like British/European Electroluxes. My favorites there would be my 345 tank; my 612E, Contour, Contour Flexihead, and Airstream 2 uprights, and my Excellio Super Silence and Power Max cylinders.

The...

turquoise 'Jetson' G....for service, utility and looks. Occasionally, I'll see some canister vac that intrigues me, but I don't have the time/resources to try other marques. The Hospital G is interesting, but insanely priced due to rarity.

I'm very fond of my 1205. It's a good vacuum, I love the color... blue is my favorite color. I don't have a PN-1, so I have been using a PN-5. I replaced the chewed-up hose with the new bojack hose with the PN switch under the handle grip. I'd like to get a mini nozzle for cleaning the furniture and maybe paint the PN to match the vacuum's color. By the way, what is the name of the 1205's color?

Justin:

Just get a PN-1 or PN-2 for your 1205. Your PN-5 will chip if you paint it, since its housing is plastic. You'll also like the earlier PNs better, since they don't have that silly "floating" feature the PN-5 does; they "bite" the carpet better and groom it quite well. Also, the PN-5 has a bad habit of breaking the screw mounts in its plastic bottom plate if the brushroll ever gets a bad jam, and the plate is expensive, around $35.

If your 1205 is an early one that uses a separate PN cord (it will have a PN cord port under the hose port if that's the case), only the PN-1 would be correct. But if your hose port is electrified and can accept an electrified hose, either the PN-1 or PN-2 can be considered correct.

Of the two PNs, I like the PN-2 better, since its housing is aluminum and is easy to polish up like new again; it also looks great with the polished aluminum trim on the 1205's top deck. The turquoise plastic housing on the correct PN-1 tends to get scratched, and can crack.

So far as I know, there was never an official paint color name for the 1205; I've only ever heard it referred to as "turquoise."

My favorite of course is the 1975 Electrolux Golden Jubilee with PN2 and the Golden Jubilee stickers on both the machine and PN. My Grandma bought it new in the spring of 76,,i just about died of anticipation to use it. Its still in good shape, and living in retirement in my collection,,,couldnt bare to part with it,,its like an old dear friend. I for one LOVE the gold color of the Golden J and Super J,,i think its Electrolux at its finest.

My favorite will always be my Grandma's white L with the PN-1. She bought it new in 1963 for like $150.00 I can't remember, i'll have to look at the invoice.
It was the first Lux I had ever seen and the first Lux I ever owned.
