Hi all,

As the title says, what in your opinion is the best commercial cylinder? My favorite has to be Numatic, for reliability, suction, big bags, and the simplicity of them.

I look forward to hearing your opinions!

Nilfisk

HI Mine would have to be a Nilfisk GA70 or GM 80 An icon classic that works and lasts a life time

Depends on how you define "commercial". If sold as such, yeah, Numatics are great. I'm something of a fan of the Fairfax and Silver King, too, if you can deal with the price tag. They used to be sold as commercial, and they're still as high-grade as anything actually labeled as such.

Depends  on country a lot too, as possibly the Americans have their own types of commercial or shop vacs that they favour. I am not sure how many Numatics are in use in the USA, but they are certainly popular in the UK as they are about the only vacs left that are made in the UK, and they are very reliable/hardy vacs. Many businesses use Numatic here, and although Karcher, Vax, Nilfisk, Taski and others are made to look similar, they will not beat good old Numatic.

Asking people here what their favourite commercial vac is is a bit difficult to answer if most people here don't have a commercial premises to clean, and many people wouldn't choose a Nilfisk canister as a domestic vac. I think that most UK members would say that The Henry is their favourite. I only have a Henry so I would have to say that too, as I have never used another type of commercial canister apart from certain types of Karcher, which I thought were pretty mediocre, with poor quality floor heads.

If you look at the commercial range of Numatic vacs you will see they have a HUGE range of them for all types of commercial use.

The tools on Karcher commercial cleaners are relatively poor, despite the cleaners being OK. Numatic takes the lead as it makes a high quality cleaner with a high quality tool kit.

However, the Numatic now has many, many rivals in the UK who are producing cleaners which, despite not being as rugged as Numatic, are still of excellent quality and are a good deal cheaper too. This would not drastically affect the commercial customers who buy vacuum cleaners for their own premises, as many would and indeed do still by Numatic (particularly as so many high street retailers now sell them, thus availability is no issue whatsoever), but for the massive number of contract cleaning companies working in all manner of homes and buildings around the country, a cheaper alternative will always be tempting, given the amount of vacuum cleaners they get through year on year.

To my mind Numatic have always been a commercial company with a domestic line just like SEBO. In the UK at least very little beats the SEBO commercial uprights. Due to their reliability, performance and easy maintenance, no wonder both Numatic and SEBO hold greater footholds on the commercial market - the service personnel who use them swear by them.

Actually Benny I think Karcher cylinders are pretty rubbish all round. I have had two that just didn't last - the general plastics, lock fittings and filter rings don't stay on, some breakages are possible from shattering plastics and above all, though the motors are powerful, their commercial line up even when considered with a metal finish bin are questionable.

The only Karcher appliance I have that hasn't had anything break off it yet is my 2 year old Karcher window vac - but the longest has been a 7 year old pressure washer that has required several lance replacements whilst the main carry handle cracked after a week's use.
