I think the Royal Prince and Dirt Devil 501 hand vacuums are awesome. They both have impressive agitation and airflow.

Haven't found a cordless handheld vac that gets grit out of our carpeted stairs. NBV240 cordless Henry looks interesting and has swappable batteries. Not a handhel but very portable. Does cost as much as a good canistet vac!

I like the slim Shark Ion handheld vac…..it’s so cool and powerful. It’s not for deep cleaning, but for surface litter it’s great - and it has a nice little stand which holds the tools too.

I'm a huge fan of the Royal Prince 501. I own three of them. I've had opportunities to get plastic Dirt Devils that replaced the 501 but they've never interested me except possibly as a brush roll donor.

That said, I recently acquired something entirely different in the form of an Oreck XL mini vac that's more like a scaled down canister. There's no provision for any sort of power nozzle but it does have enough suction to spin a turbo brush.
