My Mom and Dad married Dec 6 1950, They saved there money, and in 1952 bought ...for 350.00 a 1948 Plymouth 4 door De Luxe, and For 99.95 at Home Electric co. in Lenoir NC, a model 815 GE Swivel Top, the first canister made by General Electric, it served until I was about three, 1968!!

Hi Hans, I was just talking to Fred about that the other day, my mother had a turquoise first generation Eureka Princess.  We had that vacuum until the early 70's when my parents went to Sears and bought a square canister, I don't think it was a Lady Kenmore but it might have been.

My Maternal Grandmother!

Bought new..in 1948, a Electrolux XXX complete with cordwinder and polisher, which my Mother and Aunt said they used each and every Saturday to wax and polish the hardwood floors with!!!

My mom says she remembers having this lindhaus looking machine. (almost electrolux upright styled) She bought it when she married my dad back in 1993.

I know my grandma bought an electrolux Super J and every thing else like the floor polisher/scrubber, and stuff.

She remembers it well, and really liked it.

I have been looking for an Electrolux Super J in good condition with power nozzle for her. Have yet to find the right one.

She said the hose got crushed and it was very expensive to fix so she traded the machine in. She said she really regretted it.

My mom's first vacuum was a 1990 Eureka ESP 2011. It was a wedding gift, and she had it for 7 years! That is the longest she has ever owned a vacuum. My dad's first vacuum was a tan JC Penny 'Hoover' with a square headlight. He said that is all he remembers about it, and it was a hand me down from either his parents or his ex wife's parents. But he specifically remembers it being tan, having the big headlight, and saying JC Penny on it. I would love to find out what it actually was!

Well, I won't say it was a vacuum cleaner my "parents" owned, because I don't EVER remember seeing my Dad use one!  However, they were given a new Kirby when they got married in 1953, so I'm assuming it was a Model 513.  I vaguely remember it when I was a kid.  But the vacuum I remember the most was a green Hoover Convertible.  I don't remember it having a headlight, but I do remember that it used the Type C bag.  The outer bag had snaps.  Those Type C bags were always a mess to change!  She finally got a Kirby Classic Omega (which I now own) when I was in Junior High School.  I have no idea what happened to that Convertible or her Kirby 513.  My Mom is always hard on vacuum cleaners.  I see those "torture" tests on Youtube.  They're nothing compared to what she does to a vacuum cleaner on a daily basis!

and...

yes thats the very one.....hers was the first version from right at 1979....from what i hear this model ran to 1985....and there is another version same color combo, but the only thing different is this later one had the plastic swich plate and slider switch as oppose to the metal switch plate and classic toggle switch that was always used before...

and heres the sales literature on it....

Eurekastar..

The Hoover Convertible was most likely a model 1030. It was a metal based lime green convertible with no headlight and a snap-up bag using Type C bags. Where the headlight would be, it would have send Convertible with a brown square going around it. They are very nice vacuums.

<span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: small;">We lived with my grandmother, and we used her fabulous Hoover Model 28. It's still one of my favorite Hoovers, and a real workhorse. My parents went out and bought a Hoover Model 31 Special in 1959 (no headlight, snap-up vinyl bag). I was sick. My aunt had the DeLuxe Convertible 65 with the headlight and zip-up bag. I bugged my mother for days...."Why didn't you get the NICE Hoover, like Aunt Barbara?"</span>

Mom..

My parents had a Rainbow D4 SE. I LOVED that vacuum. They had every optional accessory but a couple years before I was born, their house exploded. I'm guessing they hadn't had the machine very long. The explosion destroyed the aquamate, rainbowmate, 2 quart basin, and wet hose. I think it is a great testament to that machine's durability that it survived an explosion! We sold it in a yard sale because mama got tired of emptying the water.(I think this was around 2002) It was replaced with a Eureka Whirlwind.

Parent's first vacuum

Electro Hygiene Tank in the 50's. Traded in Premier 21 that was my mom's mom and dad's,  they lived with us at the time.

Hoover 1030

My parents first vacuum was the Hoover 1030 convertible with the matching slim line or slim liner ?!? canister...think they purchased that in 1970/1971 when they purchased their first home. I still have the upright, canister was tossed a long time ago...my mom then went to a TOL Sears Powermate Canister in 1975, that's the vacuum I remember most playing with, but played with both...haha I was upset when mom threw out the Kenmore in the early 80's when she went with a self-propelled Hoover Concept One...I'm on a mission to find that the Sears model. I have the 1980 "Sears Best" canister and love it...

My Parents had.....

My dad's parents had an Airway 66 as their wedding present and my mom's parents had a light blue Hoover Conny. My dad later had a plastic Hoover Convertible in college. Fro their my parents joined the Amway business and we've been selling and maintaining the ClearTraks ever since.

My parents first was an automatic E..My mom used my grandmothers xxx until she got her own Electrolux in the mid 50.s

The first vacuum I can remember my Mom having was a Kenmore canister. It was burnt orange with a disc on the bottom of it (where the motor was). It had a white hose. I can't tell you the model number, or even if I would be able to recognise it today. It wasn't my favorite. My Grandmothers was. When the Kenmore quit (around 1966) the household got a two-tone blue Lewyt (Shetland-Lewyt?) AND a pinkish Regina Electrikbroom. Had both of those until 1975 when some no good dirty rotten rat fink Kirby salesman sold them a Classic Omega III. After which I was no longer in the house. My Grandmother's machine was still going strong well into 1977 when my Grandfather passed away and everything was sold/given away while Grandma was in assisted living.
