Each year I would always wish and hope that some companies would release something that's new, exciting, or even better than what their predecessor model(s) would be and so I'm curious to hear of what everyone is hoping would come out for next year in 2022. As for me? I'm wishing and hoping that TTI would resurrect their Royal UR32200PC (Oreck) lightweight bagged upright and rebrand it as the Dirt Devil. I would love to have the Dirt Devil brand re-enter the bagged market again and I think this would be a perfect candidate for a cheap bagged vacuum since Dirt Devil is known to be the cheaper household vacuum brand of TTI. I also would love if TTI could make this red instead of blue like the Royal version or at least make it black and put the red colored decals with white lettering logos on it like what H-P Products would do for Dirt Devil's central vac power units.

I’m just hoping that Kirby next colour change is cool and interesting lol and I always get excited when Dyson brings out next technology so can’t wait to see what they have been up to

Alex....a Dirt Devil rebrand of a Oreck XL?!?! If David Oreck saw this, he would definitely disapprove. Maybe a vacuum perceived as lower end, like the Dirt Devil Featherlite, would be good to be redesigned again as a bagged Dirt Devil.

Hey that's a great name for the Dirt Devil clone of the Oreck, the Featherlite:) Cause afterall Orecks are known to be very light so I would think that'd be perfect for it! But as far as a redesigned bagged Dirt Devil would go, I have a hard time seeing that happening. It would be more costly, time consuming, and likely of a waste to design something new versus just picking something out that they already have in production and rebrand it. It's also something to test out for a short period of time to see of how well it would go. If lots of people would buy it, then they would continue on selling. But if not, then they can move on and stick with their bagless line since that's what most people would buy today are bagless vacuums. And what would David Oreck think? I would think he'd be over it already since both Hoover and Royal have rebranded the Orecks, it's not like they would ever get rid of his designs that made Oreck so famous. Anyways that's just my opinion.

I really like what dyson does yearly with coming out new cordlesses. I wasn't impressed with the v15 and that color scheme didn't impress me. I do hope Kirby comes out with a new model with a new name. Because god forbid we get avalir 3, which is realistically what we would call sentria 5. Then again avalir 2, realistically sentria 4. isn't really a color change. I hope if kirby comes out with a new model, rather it be a color change, please make it worth our wild, even if that mean coming out with new attachments or optional accessories. I do hope 2022 is something new for kirby, and I say that because avalir2 is going on 4 years. I also do hope Rexair comes out with something new, even though they came out with the SRX 2 years ago. I hope they come out with some new optional accessories.

As I’ve written once before, I hope Miele or Sebo or Electrolux or one of the other European manufacturers comes out with a very quiet Oreck clone that has high filtration, long cord and a second motor for the brushroll so it can be turned off for cleaning bare floors. No tools needed, just a really quiet Oreck clone for deep carpets and bare floors.

I know here in Canada there is a bagged Dirt Devil, it's called the Dynamite. Its a canister, cant find any information on it or on Dirt Devils website. I'm assuming it's a private label of something, can anyone recognize it? I saw it at Canadian Tire last week and was honestly surprised at how the canister felt, pretty hefty for it's size. Although the hose, tubes and floor tool felt god awful.

Here it is on Candian Tire's website

I'm looking forward to cordless vacuum technology improv

Corded vacuums will continue to have their place for the foreseeable future but cordless is where the action is today. I'm not a big Dyson fan but the V15 shows cordless vacuums are taking steps towards replacing corded vacuums every year. The V15 and V11 Outsize are the first cordless vacs to really have some performance numbers that are actually good. Hoover's Onepwr bagged upright is also interesting along with the Oreck pod. It's interesting seeing cordless direct air machines and I think cordless direct air machines may be answer to replacing corded vacuums eventually (for the average household). The only catch with direct air machines is that they have to be bagged as far as I know.

I've actually come around to accepting bagless machines even with their shortcomings. It's not that I like them, it just is what it is. People like feeling like seeing the dirt they pick up. It's a positive feedback loop that bags don't provide as easily.

Regarding vacuums I want to see in '22. I want to see more upright cordless options like the Shark Vertex Upright (successor to P50). Stick vacs are okay but I really like Shark's implementation of lift away designs. The Shark liftaways give you the benefits of both uprights and canisters.

The other things I want to see in '22 is newer and more modern designs from establishment vacuum companies. I'm talking about Kirby, Rainbow, Sanitaire, Riccar, etc. Sebo has a good vacuum with their Felix/Dart machine. Miele has some good vacs but I would like to see a better version, maybe bagged version, of the Triflex.

As far as I can tell, whole home carpet is dead and carpet is only being put in bedrooms, stairs, and other limited use situations. Hard floors seem to be the only thing in vogue currently and I don't see that changing anytime soon. With that, I would like see better hardfloor heads. The fluffy motorized rollers seem to be the best solution at the moment but they have to be cleaned frequently. Some of the brushed straight suction heads seem okay but they don't appear to outperform the fluffy heads. Vacuuming hard floors with a normal motorized brush head with the roller turned off seems almost worthless.

The reality is that a lot of dust on hard floors isn't going to be removed without some form of minimal agitation. Perhaps a company will develop some form of mild ultrasonic head or something that can use straight suction.

I'd like to see manufacturers come up with a better method for odor control than using fragrances or charcoal. Fragrances usually combine with the odor of the bag contents and then become part of something worse. Charcoal tends to not last very long because it loses its efficacy at every contact with odor sources in the bag. Dysonman1 is selling the Aura machine which has a built in ionizer and it would be great to see other brands jump on board using ionization.

Luxlife, I agree with you that odour control definitely needs improvement in today's vacuums. You're not going to convince someone to buy a bagged vacuum if it develops a bad smell from picking up stuff like dog or cat hair.

However, ionization is not a good solution besides charcoal filtration and using fragrances. The problem is ionizers produce ozone - bad idea! Whenever I am asked about air purifiers, I always tell anyone not to buy purifiers that use ionization or use metal collection plates instead of HEPA or ULPA filters with a charcoal pre filter for this reason. Even if it does eliminate or reduce odours from the vacuum, the artificial oxygen that ionization produces, plus the byproducts left in the air, cause harmful side effects to human health long term. I am sure Health Canada and the FDA would nix the idea of vacuums using ionization real quick! As for Aura producing their vacuum with ionization, I would imagine the FDA will pull it off the market once they are made aware of it. And I am totally dumbfounded of how companies like Aerus Electrolux can even be legally allowed to sell air purifiers with such technology....I doubt it will last for much longer.

What I can see being developed as a solution to vacuums producing bad odour is more bags and filters being manufactured with chemicals applied to the fabric that resist bacteria and odours forming or kills them entirely on contact. Or, like charcoal bags, the bag or filter would have a specialized fabric layer that does not allow the bacteria responsible for odours to form in the first place. Another idea would be to see specialized types of plastic used for vacuums that resists the bacteria responsible for odours, this would take it 1 step further than some brands (like Bissell) that treat the plastic with a chemical like Microban to resist bacteria and odours but eventually wears off.

I second Juju93 on this.

I am more than ready for an all new Kirby Model to hit the market. They haven’t really changed the machines since 1990 minus a few small changes here and there. It’s time they introduced something new. The G series is perfectly fine and I like them. But it’s getting repetitive. I know they designed an all new machine in the early 2000s and it was slated to be put into production in the early 2010s I believe. I think it was going to bear the Avalir name. But they ended up scrapping the design for reasons I do not know. Hopefully something new comes out soon. Maybe right lane industries will make changes? Who knows.

@ KirbyCollector

Theres quite a bit of things kirby can do to improve on its current G-series machine. My biggest complaint is how loud the machine is. Its too loud and sometimes unbareble to listen too when usinng it. Another thing is its too bulky when its in the shampoo mode. People aren't going to be able to clean in hard to reach places with the way the current design is set up. Those are just some of the things I would like to see kirby work on for future models. I'm sure you all have seen previous post on various threads where I talk about the things I'd like for kirby to 'address"

I agree on bags - I'm tired of changing a bag and then the second time I go to use it already stinks!

Also would like to see more canisters - but being in the United States I expect that will stay a more niche market for Aerus, Miele, Tristar, maybe Oreck, Dyson and the like.

Hoover and TTI don't seem interested in canister market here.

@kirbylux77. I'll add a little here about ozone. I used to be in sales for ionization and ozone purifers....the ozone is NOT harmful when produced BELOW 50ppm (parts per million), they are very effective. I use my machines regularly even today ( getting rid of odors from cooking, cigars, stale closets etc). The ozone machines that apartment buildings (after tenants) and environmental cleanup companies ...are NOT safe to use with people in the rooms. THAT is where the reputation of them not being safe comes from. enjoy

also to just add...

One thing I would like to see come out in 2022 other than a new kirby, is a redesign MiniJet attachment for the rainbow system. The current one is ok but it could use improvement. One of the imrprovements I would like to see is more brush heads. If you look at the many different brush heads that other companies like bissell and hoover have to offer with their hose type shampoo systems, you can see that many of them have more than one type of styles of brushes, unlike the minijet on the rainbow that just has the typical one row of bruhes behind the suction nozzel. I would like to see rexair come out with the following for the minijet:
1. A rotating spin brush similar to the hoovers spin brush. Or just a mini spin brush that way it can be like having a mini aquamate in the palm of your hands
2. A brush similar to the deep stain tool/ pet stain tool that bissell has, that injects the solution deep down.
3. A easy was to clean the hose once cleaning applications are done.
4. Also the handle is a little uncomportable when cleaning for extented periods of time, so a more comfortable handle would be desire.

Those are just some of the ideas I would like for rexair to improve on the minijet. They can improve on it and call it the minijet complete or the MiniJet 2. But this accessory has been out for a little while now and has had no improvement on it through the years but there is potential for it to improve on.

I'm excited to see the new Riccar/Simplicity clone of the Henry. I love the new color of it. Only have the spread sheet, so "in person" viewing will be soon.
