what vacuum would you get if...

Vacuums weren't your "thang"? I asked myself that question and I really couldn't come up with an answer. I have no clue, but I wonder if any of you do. If you didn't love, collect, or have a passion for vacuums, what would you own?

If I didn't care about vacuums as much as I do, I wouldn't be as educated about them as I am and would probably think a plastic bagless Bissell with onboard tools was fine. I am glad that I love vacuums and don't have to pick just one! But, sometimes, it's fun to play what if.

So, what do you think you would have?

if I had a lot of money a dyson. Otherwise some other kind of walmart thing. Dirt devil bagless is what I had before I regained interest in the vacuum.

I was looking in the Sears catalouge last night picking the best from the worst. They all seem to be about the same. I would probably pick the cheapest Kenmore. The Dysons are way too expensive. If I had to choose, I would get central vac instead. It was only $100.00 more.

Well, if I didn't collect vacuums or know much about them I would buy either a bagged Kenmore upright or a commercial Eureka they sell at Sam's Club

Filter Queen

I would just grin and bare it and get a Filter-Queen. Super quiet. You can talk on the phone while using it. And holds 2 gallons of crap before needing emptying....Bill in Az....

Interesting question!! I grew up in a Hoover house and all my relatives had similar versions of the late 50s / early 60s Hoover Convertible. In my house, we later had a Decade 800 before I moved out, so I have to believe that I would continue to go with a Hoover product of some sort. I probably wouldn't realize how down hill they have gone since that brand's hey day. But I guess I can't be sure. My brother does not share my life long interest in vacuums, is thrilled with his Eureka Boss and probably doesn't even realize that we had Hoovers as kids. So i guess it's impossible to guess what I'd like in that scenario. Glad I'm on this side of this question.

I watch Craigs list here in columbus, Ohio. Everyday I see people selling Kirby's because they're too heavy, or they
don't want to buy bags. So everyone got a new "dyson"
for Christmas is the message I keep getting around here.
Personally I would still like to play/try a Dyson but have
had a lot of good miles on my Hoover Windtunnel of 10 years
now, plus that is the vac I have recommended to friends and
family (bagged,of course) and everyone has reported back that
they like them for convience and suction on the tools. Especially I they spring for and extra long hose and floor brush. Plus the price point of less the $150.00.

Well if I did not collect cleaners it would be a Miele for sure. I do not care about any other house hold machine still almost everything is miele over here. need to see it is three times cheaper over here. lol

speaking of being cheap If did not collect machines I would have bought a Dirt Devil Deluxe because they were ok machines and lasted a pretty long time. however the only thing that I do not like is that the handle is pretty cheap and can break pretty easily. other than that it is a nice machine. if I could not afford that I would have gotten either a hoover Elite or my favorite the Hoover convertible 1020

I'd get a pair of Hoovers.....

I am a great believer in have one machine only for carpets, and another for everything else. You can get a pair of Hoovers for under $300 that are excellent. The best carpet cleaner for the money now is the Hoover Widepath Tempo, which sells for an amazing $75 at Best Buy. It's lightweight, deep cleans broadloom very well and has great filtration. It's also not that noisy. For everything else, get the new revamped Hoover Constellation for about $200, if you can find any left. It is so easy to use! And it cleans everything except deep-pile carpeting really well. The long hose, quiet motor, high filtration bag and "float on air" feature make this a breeze to use. It's also lightweight and comes with a very good bare floor brush that you often don't get with suction-only canisters. I really wish TTI would rethink their attitude to the Constellation and make it part of their Platinum line.
