The

model was the D4 SE performance edition with the newly designed power nozzel then after that the E series replaced that with the 1st E series model being a single speed model. They had a few motor problem`s with the E series in the first years. But now rainbow has perfected the Water filter vacuum .

Do you know what year the Performance Edition stopped being produced? And the only difference in the SE and Performance Edition was the power nozzle and hose wasn't it?

Yes and No

That was it sorta . I remember my rainbow salesman selling me the Hose and newer style power nozzle for my Rainbow D4 SE that had the oblong style nozzle and it made my machine look just like the newest model out . I am going to guess 1990 . I can`t remember lol old age .So they had the D4 SE and then came the D4SE performance edition with the new power nozzle . It was very confusing at the time .

what model replaced the Rainbow SE?

Dan,
That sounds correct. I bought my SE new in 1992 and I went to my first wonderful vac convention in 1998. Got to tour the Electrolux factory and Tom Gasko had the presentation of the new Model E Rainbow. The vac club members got to see it and try it JUST as it was introduced to the market. I have pictures of us all looking it over. I was thinking the only difference between the SE and PE was the introduction of the new power nozzle style but I could be wrong. I was under the spell of the first vac convention and Electrolux Factory tour at the time.

The one speed E series had motor problems the first year?

That's interesting. What sort of problems were they running into with the motor?

Model E series single speed

I had to have the motor in my Eseries replaced just after I had it two years. I thought that was kind of strange since I never have had any motor problems with any other Rainbow I have owned. But I traded the Eseries in on the E2 two speed. And boy have I regretted that ever since. I have only used my two speed Rainbow maybe three or four times in the six years I have owned it (It is too loud for me). Rainbow is in it's box in the garage. I will trade it in on one of the new Rainbows if we ever get a Rainbow Dealer in this state... Oh well I guess I will just have to wait.

what model replaced the se

Dan,
If you don't have a Rainbow dealer in your area give Ken a call. He really knows the Rainbow and he double boxed mine. It arrived in perfect condition and it is very quiet. I know what you are talking about with the noise level, as I have heard several of the E series that I thought were very loud.
The new machine has a lot more power and air flow than my SE. I gave Ken's number on the other Rainbow thread. The new machine also has so many worthwhile improvements over my SE. Much more user friendly.

Rob

I already called Ken he`s a very nice guy . I will be getting the new rainbow from him in July . I have been buying too many vacuums and have to hold off a bit especially with a big purchase like this well worth it though . Thank you so much. What do you mean about the noise ? I think Rainbow`s all are very quiet.

Everyone I have ever heard talk about the E series about the noise that it was reduced a lot on the brushless 2 speed as opposed to the one speed. It sounded like thermokid thinks the opposite. My two speed isn't loud at all. The loudest thing about it is when I'm running the PN. I've never heard or used a one speed Rainbow, other than seeing them on Youtube. It does sound totally different than the 2 speed

What model replaced the SE?

Mark,
I think that the first model E was pretty loud. It is my undersatnding that they added sound insulation after the started with the 2 speed machines. I would assume your 2 speed was after the sound insulation was added during the model run. That is just a guess.

So why did the very first E2 only have one speed? I have had 3 E2 models and they were all 1 speed machines. I called the closest dealer and the lady told me they never made a single speed E2????

After the SE.........There was the "E" series, which was ONE speed....1998 to 2004 the one speeds were sold, but they were NOT called E2.....Just E (I think).....Then in 2004, the new model E 2 came out, which was 2 speed. Completely different motor but similar looks and quieter than the regular E one speed......I'm surprised a dealer didn't explain that if you asked them, but I don't think there was ever an E2 ONE speed......Only 2 speed.

Confused? I am!
