My main vacuum is going to need a motor replacement soon. It is an Electrolux Epic 6500 SR (the blue and gray model).

What motor did it come with and how many air watts is it?

What is the proper replacement motor and how many air watts is that?

Any good replacement videos out there? Thanks

The old Electrolux motor factory was sold to the employees and is now known as Electromotor Inc. They sell two drop in replacement motors for the Epic 6500 SR. One has flat fans and makes a lot less power than the original Renaissance motor in your Epic. That motor is 6500-293 and is the one most vac shops try to sell you because it is less expensive. DO NOT BUY 6500-293. The other motor is a two stage motor with a tapered fan just like your original motor, but makes another 100 + peak air watts over the original motor. That motor is Electromotor 6500-298. It is a drop in replacement for the motor you have now. You do have to remove one carbon brush to get it to slide into the mounting ring but that is not a big deal or what I did was to file shallow notches on the inside diameter of the mounting ring to clear the brushes. The brushes are just a tiny bit wider than those in the original motor but the rest of the dimensions are the same. I put one of these in my Epic 8000 that came with the same motor that is in your Epic 5600 SR and it literally doubled the measured airflow at the hose end. Your original motor, if it's 650-242, has 349 peak air watts. It it an earlier motor, 6500-274 it only has 320 peak air watts and the cheap replacement motor 6500-293 only has 285 peak air watts. 6500-298 has 438 peak air watts. That's the one to buy.

A good place to buy a 6500-298 is Lighthouse Motors in Arizona. They have the lowest prices. On their website they call the motor 6500-242UP because it is the upgrade for the 6500-242 that is probably in your Epic. Confusing I know. You can call them and specify you want 6500-298. They are nice people too. Their website is kind of cluttered and confusing. They don't often respond to emails but they do answer the phone.
