What is your favorite vintage vacuum and your least favorite vacuum?

I highly doubt that! I would fly off the couch as soon as you turn that thing on! Classic III? Quiet? The only time those 2 words should EVER be used in a sentence together would be if you said, "The Kirby Classic III is the farthest thing from quiet! What are you, deaf?" 

 Despite the hell-raising roar that the Classic III is well-known for, I think it's one of the most intimidating and powerful vacuums ever built.

poor you, the machine you're referring to must have had bad bearings! either in the motor or the brush! My Classic III runs smooth as Pepsodent!

Kirbys do run smooth...

But so do 747s!!!!..Kirbys have always been one of the loudest cleaners made....that said, they are also one of the best built...especially the pre self propelled models, I just gave my nice D-80 to Ron Jones, im thinning out some uprights..I have a Omega that really is a good cleaner...just too big and heavy...I love my 1958 Royal 801, light and for an upright ,fairly quiet.

a 70's Pontiac V-8 powered by a tornado! LOL! I love how the old Kirbys sound, but the Sentria II isn't too bad. Before I got my first Heritage II, I thought that all Kirbys were pretty loud, but man, was I wrong! My HII-Legend isn't that loud, but it moves a ridiculous amount of airflow, so it, too, has that distinctive, thunderous note when I start it up.

My favorites would be pre generation series kirbys. Especially the model 519 that my grandmother had and then the Kirby classic she bought for me to entertain her with. (Ah the memories of those days) My least favorite vitage vacuum would be the electrolux. (Sorry to those guys that love them) Electrolux just never could sweep me off my feet. In addition to least favorites 99% of todays vacuums found at your local big box stores.

I shouldn't and won't mention a "worst", although I have my opinions. You all know I'm "all HOOVER"... been told that's 'tiresom'. One might say I could come across as an elitist snob...... I NEVER condescend, NEVER bash. It's been suggested by a few people that I should "diversify". My response was," that would be like Julia Child whipping up a Duncan Hines box cake. not gonna happen" I ALWAYS say I appreciate those who collect other species, but it's not my "bag"... C or otherwise.

Well stated, HOOVER has had it's more stellar moments, but in MY book, all you really need is a good Convertible.

Not to rain on anyone's Kirby parade, but the old toe-touch axle used on all Kirbys before the Classic 1CR is my new dislike since they are not recommended for thick or shag carpets (for houses built since 1970), since you only have to click once or twice from the highest position to engage the nozzle to the surface to be cleaned.

That is why I decided to change out the old toe-touch axle from my '69 Dual Sanitronic 80 and use the Classic III axle in its place. I was inspired to do this after researching and observing the toe-touch axles for the American-Lincoln Super-Sweep and COMVAC 1300.
