After playing golf with my grandpas friends, one of them said he had a vacuum type thing. Later that day he brought me this and said it is for picture negatives. I think it is cool

Looks like a vacuum pump of some kind.Like to pump air from something-HVAC techs use a vacuum pump to pump out a refrigeration system-remove any air-before adding the refrigerant.Also small vacuum pumps were used with devices to pick up items-not as a vacuum cleaner-but as material handling-an electric "suction cup"A vacuum pump is also used to hold core drill bases firmly to the floor so the hole bored is straight and vertical.A water pump in the core drill circulates water to cool and lube the diamond core drill bit.electricians and plumbers use core drilling machines-used to repair them.
