What Is The Current State Of Hoover?

In your mind? I recently called a ton of vacuum stores for a disconnected Hoover part and they all talked about "When Hoover was still in business". I don't think they are totally out of business, as they still sell some Maytag Hoovers, but the more I look at Hoover's current product line I see more Dirtdevil like vacuums, and fewer parts for even newer Hoovers. It's getting kinda sad.........

Hoover in my mind has turned into another plastic-vac brand that chooses form over function all the time. I'm a very practical person when it comes to appliances and there appearance, and I just find no appeal in modern "Hoovers". The only vac I can think of they have (besides the commercial line) that I don't hate the looks of would be the Windtunnel, the last standing vacuum from the real Hoover days.
I definitely like Modern Eureka better then modern "Hoover" these days.

hoover and royal/dirt devil are owned by a chinese firm tti
the same vacs are sold as hoover, or dirt devil. they still make metal royal uprights with large amp motors that are called *screamers* by us royal fans.

the mighty has fallen, but long after the plastic crap is in the landfill the convertibles, constellations, and earlier vacs will still be with us, doing what they were BUILT to do, cleaning up !!!

Hoover Service Centers

The VAC shops were probably referring to closing the nationwide Hoover Authorized Service centers. I really miss my local shop and Hoover guy. This was like the final cut of ties between TTI and the old North Canton Hoover.

On a more optimistic side, TTI seems to be reconnecting with the Hoover heritage in their new add campaigns that show previous Hoover vacs and use the old "Hoover, no one does it like you" jingle. Maybe this will be reflected in the design of future Hoover vacs, though I'm not going to count on it.

To me, it's really not Hoover anymore as sad as that sounds. Even though I mostly lose interest in Hoover's uprights after the 60 series was discontinued, with the 918/U7037 style being one of the few exceptions, and their canisters after they stopped making the Celebrity, they still seemed like the same company as they always were. I know I feel they really haven't been the "real" Hoover in a very long time, but now the only thing it seems like they have left over is the name.

And by the way, I've heard that TTI will only make replacement parts for machines until they are 7 years old, then they're done. So if anything is still available for any old Hoovers or Royals that you might want I'd stock up, thinks will be disappearing fast (not that they haven't been already...)

It's sad that an all-american company sold to the chinese, but what makes it worse for me is they call these horrible plasti-vac machines hoover. I know this will probably never come true but I always hope that Hoover will one day come back home where they belong.
