My wonderful "new" Hoover Constellation 86! This was the last vacuum on my (albeit short) "must have" wish list. The floating action works great and does not blow away debris away as I thought it might. It does not have great suction compared to my 1970's shop vac. It took a while to get my kitchen floor clean with it, but it was still great fun!

Welcome to Connie ownership, Pam! A good working motor should pull about 60-65 inches. Someone said theirs pulled 80 inches but frankly, I'd have to see that to believe it.

As you get the hang of a Connie, you can actually make the exhaust work in your favor....IOW move it around so the dust/dirt are blown into an area you're still going to do.

As much as I love my older Connies, the newer retro one is so well thought out, that all the shortcomings of the older ones are resolved. I use it all the time without reservation. It pulls nearly 80 inches. I haven't used the air driven rug head....I suspect it's lacking, but the other floor tools are great.

I have that floor head you have in the pic and one that has a lower profile and slightly newer. You can often find the correct floor tools for the older Connies from Celebrity and Spirit models.

Great Connie, very nice find.

Kevin the turbo head actually is pretty good on the new retro Connie however I modified mine for a power nozzle using a Hoover Spirit hose and power nozzle

@alex, do you use the whole bag thickness or just some of the layers? Great idea.

@Phillip, I'm surprised that head works as well as you say. My new house actually has two carpeted rooms when I actually get there. And I've got all kinds of things to play with waiting for the day we got carpets again...lol! Cool conversion with the Spirit hose and PN.
