What I didn't buy at Goodwill today...

So, I took a quick walk through Goodwill this afternoon. Hadn't been there in several weeks. I was briefly tempted by an Electrolux Renaissance canister with its hose and power nozzle, but no other accessories, priced at $10. I could have gotten it for $9 since it's seniors' 10% off day. It seemed to be in nice condition, but I decided to walk away from it. It was just too much plastic and too many circuit boards for my old school tastes, and since it uses type R bags, that would have been just another type to keep up with. Also, when I set it down horizontal on the floor, then picked it back up, rice started spilling out of the back. I walked around the store to see if there was anything else that interested me and there wasn't, so I decided to circle back for another look. As I approached the corner where it was, I heard it running and saw a lady checking it out. I hope she bought it and enjoys it. Little does she know she likely saved me from myself.

You did better than me

I bought that same model machine at Habitat a few months ago. With the attachments for $8 I think. I couldn't pass it up, and I don't regret it, as I really like the retro mod look it has going on. It's just so cool looking.

However Saturday I did pass up a red Singer upright at Goodwill, that I kind of wanted but couldn't justify buying. So I guess I passed the test last week at least.

For whatever reason, that Renaissance just didn't speak to me, but addict that I am, I went back later that evening, just to confirm that it had been sold, presumably to the lady who was looking at it. It was certainly was a nice looking machine, taking styling cues from classic 'luxes like the XXX and LX, and If I were not feeling so overrun with vacuums, I would likely have gotten it. But ever since last fall, I've had a feeling like someone who's eaten way too much at a buffet restaurant and I've been largely disinclined to acquire anything else. I don't know how long that will last but for now, I'm just going with it. I guess what I really need to do is begin re-homing machines for which I feel less of an attachment.

Glad we are not the only ones getting into this scenario.
My ladyfriend and I both do such things and usually it gets us in more trouble.

We would see something that we force ourselves to pass up, then go back another day to get it or to see if it sold.
At that time we either get that AND MORE stuff that was not there before, or, just MORE stuff that was not there before.

Sometimes we just have to get that 'undecided' thing and either redonate it if we decide against it, or keep it (hopefully) use and enjoy.

For us space is a compounding problem.

In the same boat

I don't hit the thrift stores anywhere near as often as I used to; partly for that very reason. If I don't go, I won't be tempted. If I'm not tempted, I won't give in to temptation.
Today, I hit the Goodwill, where I saw a Hoover steamer of some sort. It's about the size of a stick vac, and has a triangular base. Since I don't know anything about them, I wouldn't know if it was complete. Plus, while it's a Hoover product, it was neither a vacuum nor vintage.
In a second thrift store, I spotted a Hoover Brush Vac. It looked good cosmetically, and I don't have one. But, I still forced myself to leave it there. If they have a belt-driven brushroll, the belt may have been missing. Again, I'm not familiar with the model.
That store also had a very clean and complete, older Norelco drip coffee maker for $6.99.
If you're familiar with them, it's beige and brown, and there's a slide control above the filter basket for coffee strength that's marked 1-2-3.
That called my name a few times. I have a bit of a thing for coffee makers too.
But, again, that annoying little voice told me to walk away.
Doing the right thing is no fun.

What I DID buy at the Salvation Army

I may start a thread for this vacuum, but I thought I'd drop it here for now.
I decided to revisit the Salvation Army store where I found nothing a couple of weeks ago.
A power nozzle with chrome wand caught my eye.
Turned out to be a, (to me) newish Hoover Powermax Deluxe canister. Sort of a taupe color.
It has all the on-board tools, the aforementioned wand and power nozzle, and the hose. It also came with some bags.
It had a price sticker on it, but no price marked. I hauled the whole thing up to the front of the store to see if it ran. It did.
When I asked the cashier about the missing price, she sort of shrugged and said, "5.99?"
That worked for me.
I don't know if the power nozzle works, and it looks like someone has had it apart. One side isn't fitting together quite right. I don't do mechanical stuff, but I'll see if I can get it put back together correctly.
The machine in general has a few bumps and scuffs from use, but I don't think it looks abused.
I'll include a picture of the model/serial numbers.
This is the first I've ever heard of this model. So, anything that anyone can tell me about it would be welcome information!
I'm guessing it's probably pretty late in U.S.A.-made machines. Would that be correct?
