What have you done since Stay At Home ???

I started taking apart my Electrolux 50th jubilee. Watched a VacLab video and thought I’d give it a try. Just hit a snag trying to get the fan off the motor. I slipped the housing off and got the first fan off but the zen one fan, the stationary one is plastic and I don’t seem to get it off the rest of it to get to the first bearing. Stumped. Any pointer on how to finish this before we get set free would be great!

Other than that we are just settling into our new home. Just purchased it at the beginning of March and have a lot of new rooms to fill up but no stores are open to fill them. Probably a good thing. Haha

If you know what deseret industries is good. If you don't you should. DI is church ran thrift store. When this Corona virus blows over the backlog of items will be huge. There will be a huge influx of quality vacuums.
There is Ikea off the draper exit.
There is a few members from Utah.
Panasonicvac is Is I believe around salt lake. Kirby needs or Kent oyler lives in Riverdale. Great vacs is on redwood road I think 66000 south. There is a member who lives in hurricane.

I'm working on my Hoover Gallery

I'm prepping the room for my carpenter to spend ONE day or plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.
It'll be an awesome room, when finished.
I'm also working on the house.
I'm preparing 20+ vacuums for sale.
I'm also cooking........ for my aunt.

Lots of stuff here

Been keeping busy!

1) My Dad and built a shed in the back for a riding lawn mower. Tired of mowing 1/3rd acre with a push mower!
2) Have been sewing masks for people. Kinda got burned out on that though. So taking a break there.
3) Replaced the motor in my vintage Sanitaire Model 643 - the old one, the bearings were really tired and I wasn't sure where I could source new ones, so I replaced the old 3.5 amp pancake motor with a new, modern 7 amp pancake motor. Well, dang, I'd say the suction more than doubled. I have to vacuum my living room shag actually on the "shag" setting because it clamps down to the carpet so well!
4) Organized and inventoried my freezer.
5) Finished my 505 re-trimming process after it came back from the Kirby factory
6) Cooking a lot more than I ever have before
7) Mulched the front of the house and got some pretty spring flowers in baskets

Keeping busy keeps you from wanting to climb the walls!

Preston - your motor is similar (but not identical) the the motor in my Fein shop vac. My fan case was rusted stuck, yours does not look too bad. On mine, the stationary fan / stator was permanently attached to that section of the fan case. No need to remove it, anyway. You simply need to remove the whole fan case from the motor base. My motor base was bakelite, yours looks like aluminum. Hard to tell from pics. You should be able to pull that second part of the fan case off in the same way you got the first one off.

Is it a 3 piece fan? Not familiar with these. Either which way, the blades might stay captive in the fan case, no big deal. On mine, the fan case was pinched inward in two recesses on the motor base. Used a screw driver to unbend those, and carefully worked the screwdriver blade all the way around, between the base and the fan case, to separate them. Of course mine were badly rusted together, yours should not put up that much of a fight. Though if the base is aluminum, that might well be corroded.

Madman. I was able to get it open. It is an aluminum base, It looked like one solid piece and I had a hard time getting it started but alas I did! Today I'll clean it up and re grease the bearings. is there a way to get to the "end" bearing? looks like its pretty well sealed in there and I can't see a way to get it out to service.

I have been working from home for the most part and it's going well. My boss who has been a savior in her own way has also had us working onsite two to three days a week. For Easter we did a take out dinner which was extremely successful so last week I was in at the restaurant more than anything so that we could get ready. This week I'm back home. I worked yesterday all day getting caught up on the books. I worked today working on bunch of lists and things we need to do for when we reopen.

I have been able to get unpacked and organized and the new house feels like home and more comfortable. I got caught up on my TV shows and really ready to get back to some form of normal. I did a spring cleaning when we had some nice 70 degree days. Now it's back to 30's and 40's this and next week. When it warms back up I'll get the yard and outside of the house done.

It looks like the second stage of the fan housing was stuck on, if you work around the edge you should be able to pry it off.

The back bearing has a cap over it the will come off, there is felt inside to lube the bronze bearing.

I got it all put back together but now I have a bigger problem! I’m not sure how to fix it. But I have the time haha! The color finder stopped working, would not retract and could not pull it out. I had about 5 feet of cord out and this started. I pulled the back off and took the cord cover off and saw that the spring was not where it should have been... so I kept going... now I have this.... (see photos)

I can’t find a dude o on YouTube or a guide online. Please help!! The green wheel pictured was bent and stuck in the cord wheel. Preventing it from moving. I thing the spring jumped out and left me with a mess on my hands.

Any advise on how to rewind the spring and how it was originally would be super helpful!

Yes, the cordwinders are booby traps if you don’t know what you are doing and they can cut you up too. The Trick is to wind just enough of the spring on the big reel so when the cord is fully pulled out there’s only a little on the small spool, this allows the spring to be good and tight to draw the cord in as best as possible.

I used to be an expert on these but it’s been years since I’ve had to take one apart again.

Did you figure out the back bearing situation? Mine has a ball bearing pressed onto the armature shaft, and it just sits in a rubber cup.

I should have taken a photo. It didn’t have a rubber cap but was metal. I just packed what I could with grease. It runs much quieter and I think a bit better suction.

Oh wow, your in great shape there, I don't know what I was imagining! Also, I checked with my friend in mgnt. at Home Depot about them only selling "essential items" and he said that's only back east. They've restocked what they were out of the other day when I was there, as they were picked over by panicked shoppers. They are closing at 6pm. most days.

I've rebristled my Hoover 102, 105 and two of the three 541s. So one more 541 to go then I'm thinking do I want to rebristle my Vac-u-ette?
