I thought that Aerus was supposed to release a new upright this past April/May, but I've checked their website and no changes have been made? Are they still planning on releasing a new machine? I haven't been reading the forum on a daily basis as I've been to busy lately, but I do remember some talk of a new machine in the works. I've always liked the Discovery style uprights, and have owned 2 different variations, but I felt like they needed more power. From what others have said here the new Guardian Upright solved that problem a while back. Aerus doesn't change their machines very often and I'd be surprised to see a new upright come out if the outgoing model has more than ample power. The Discovery design is excellent in my opinion and I'd hate for Aerus to screw what up with a new model.

Waiting for Aerus to come out with new products/models is like waiting for Jesus! There is no new upright coming out as I was told by the store owner in my area. He said he would let me know. They have a new air purifier and the Platinum canister that's about it. Its still a good brand, but very old school.

I hope He comes soon!!!!! but I looked at the Platinum lux and I want one. I want to see the old school as well as the new school merge. I like to see metal come back and the digital motors get bigger and more powerful. Does that Platinum Lux have a brushless motor?

When a certain forum member posted the 'information' that a brand new upright was coming in April, I simply called Rich Luisi, Vice President of Aerus (and my friend) and asked him. No new upright. They feel no need for one, as the present machine is fine (considering it's not sold at retail but demonstrated in the home, no need to constantly update for retailers). The only change will be color to match the Platinum.

When a certain member

posted , I heard from my dealer that the new machine was going to just be a color change he thought maybe they would change things more but as time went on he heard just a color change to match the Platinum .

I cant believe how nasty some people can be we are only human and sometimes different news comes out and everything is always totally different.

I belong to the Mercedes Benz Forum and not one member ever gets nasty if someone gives out information that never comes to light of day .

The Guardian upright DID address the issue of power. I am also a fan of the Discovery type design - it is very reliable and easy to use, and like you felt they needed more power. The Guardian has it. I liked it so well I bought two - it's the machine I always wish Aerus would build - an upright that didn't have you thinking "I like this but really should be running their canister".

I am one who doesn't like to see change for change sake - and in fact it was the archived posts I read about this potential "new one" that had me rushing to buy the Guardian upright because I didn't want to see Aerus engineer themselves out of a good thing.

The Guardian Upright which I have owned for two years now, some minor refinements would be nice, but overall is a simple solid performer. I would like to see the company promote and market itself better. It does offer one of the best warranties of any brand available.

The only fault I can find with the Guardian is that bit of exhaust air leakage near the back base of the machine. It's not a deal breaker for me, but if I'm going to try to pick it apart, that's the only issue. I like so much else about them - especially the reliability and how they groom.

I would also like to see Aerus offer a high end HEPA bag (similar to the Perfect version). This would be a nice option they could offer without having to do ANYTHING with respect to the machines themselves. My primary reason for wanting this is to keep anything in the exhaust from affecting motor life - with the added benefit of having the least amount of remaining dust in the air. I'm not too terribly anal about HEPA filters, yet I don't want the exhaust pouring out dust like a ShopVac either.

Yes it does leak exhaust air, its only 94% filtered air coming out by the base hose-pre-HEPA filter, but at $700+ it shouldn't do that. I got no resolution from both the salesperson and company....that should say something about them!:-/ I feel its still a good machine, but not worth the money.

Can you imagine how high the manufacturing cost would be to make the model G today (which I would LOVE to see, but I'm a realist). Casting the aluminum housings from the front and rear covers, then paying a premium to have them buffed (the most dangerous job in the factory), plus all the steel used in the body. The thing would be outrageously expensive. Beautiful, durable, and an excellent cleaner, but the price would have to be astronomical today.

I have to say, my Platinum Edition canister has the same power on the AUTO setting as a model G and is a little big quieter at that setting. It's all you need, really. I am happy that there's over 110 inches of lift on the highest speed setting, besting the Miele and the Riccar in that department. The stainless steel body isn't bad either.

Next time we get together Hans, I'll show you the new Platinum. You just might like it.

What happened to the new Aerus upright

I am with you Hans!
It just did not seem right when Electrolux tried to make uprights and Hoover tried to make canisters.
Maybe if some of these older companies had tired to make one excellent product and forget all the models that are alike except the labels and colors.
I was looking at appliance makers web site yesterday. Page after page of ALMOST the same products. I would have been MUCH happier if my new top of line appliances had made ONE good compressor that lasted more than 3 years or a water softener that could be repaired or a microwave that lasted more than one year.

Hans-When I worked for Electrolux during college summer, they were just changing over from the model G to the new 1205. For some reason the G was just more appealing and more quality looking to me.
I knew many years ago when you could buy a NEW Hoover for $29.95 for the canister and $59.95 for the Convertible in the discount stores, it was going down hill and that was 40 years ago.

Guardian upright

I think the Guardian upright addressed the only drawback of the Discovery/Epic uprights, which was inadequate suction. I love the hose and attachments on this machine. I'm glad they didn't change it beyond improving the filtration and the suction, along with the indicator lights and the automatic brush shut-off when the machine is in the locked position, which are more minor additions. I have heard their current bags are excellent filters but don't know that for sure. I still miss the IOTA bags, of which the younger people here might not be aware.

I am anxious to see the new canister at the museum, but the TriStar wands aren't the best for me because of my height. I haven't tried one yet, so I won't prejudge it.

What happend to the new Aerus Platinum Upright

Since I have never used one of the Aerus uprights, I have no valid comments on it's performance but was wondering if anyone knows what level of rating do they get from the Carpet & Rug Institute for soil removal? I did not see a rating of Gold, Silver or Bronze on the web site, just a green label.
Also does the machine have a half way stop position with the handle like the Kirby upright (to prevent having to lift the machine when changing from one level or area to the next)and does it tip over when you have the dusting tools attached like so many of the modern uprights today?
