The miele s7 uprights? How well do you think it cleans,filters etc., and what is your personal experiance with them? Just curios.

S7 Bolero

I have the S7 Bolero (black one) and while I do like it very much, I can't say that I like it as much as I expected to.

As to the things you asked about, it is excellent at cleaning and especially excellent at filtration with the hepa filters that it uses and the disposable bags are super easy to use. It is the most quiet vac I've used and it has very good tool suction (I recall that one user even had a problem with the hose collapsing on high speed, so I try to avoid doing that)

It self adjusts to the carpet height so you can't adjust that and I do like to have that ability such as w/ a Kirby. It can be hard to push and it is a little too agressive for my frisee carpet. The dusting brush is too small and the upolstery tool is ok but the revolving brush is $75 extra and doesn't store on the machine.

Overall I do like mine after having it a year and a half. But for what it cost, it is not my number one favorite nor is it my daily driver. Btw, Good Housekeeping magazine just rated it their favorite based primarily on filtration.

I know about the good housekeeping thing but remember they also rated the eureka boss as just as good. anyways I dont know if you know this or not but the self adjusting brush really does self adjust, the brush is spring loaded and I forgot to mention that since the price of the s7's has droped and the fact that I can get one at cost from my friends at our local vac shop I thought I could replace my disaster of a daily vac dyson with one and I wanted to know what everybody thought of them first

I would say get it, particularly if at cost. It performs very well in all areas. I neglected to mention that is it great on bare floors as well.

Any negatives I mentioned were mere inconveniences. And yes, it does self adjust to each carpet level, my only comment was that you can't adjust it beyond what it chooses for you. You also might want to search the archive about the problems with the collapsing hose, though I have to say I've had no problems with mine.

I saw the threads about the hose but I think it was an early manufacture defect but our vac shop has had no problems reported with the hoses and they have sold them since they came out

I bought my S7 Tango in July 2009, no problems at all. It's still basically brand new, the original bag that it came with from the factory is still in there, and it's not even 1/4 full (part of the problem is there isn't much carpet to clean, I've almost filled up the bag in my S4 with the stairs, furniture, car, and hard floors).

I'd recommend it. As mentioned it take a little muscle to pull it back. The brush roll is aggressive but not damaging, really does a nice job on carpets. Super long cord and hose, nice tools that won't damage fabric or scratch hard surfaces, *bright* LED headlights, etc. Since the Tango is an upper tier model it has the electronic power adjustment and the automatic adjustment feature too. And, you cannot beat the filtration, or noise level.

I love mine and will keep it as long as I live. It's quite a beefy vacuum. Holding the handle is like holding a BMW steering wheel.

The Bolero is also in the upper tier family with the automatic power feature, though it is on the low end of the family with the Tango and the Swing? I believe it was called.

The top two models have a metallic finish and the Bolero is more plastic looking, but i think the black is sharp. I think there is some other difference, something like a signal to change the hepa filter. I was willing to pay $50 less for mine since it cost me more than my NIB Kirby Diamond. I was one of those that had to get one of these when they were introduced.

I'm glad this topic was posted. It has re-energized me for mine. I agree with the BMW or high end car comparison.

Thanks for all the posts and because I am only turning fourteen I can handle a heavy vac so that is not a problem and to kirbyotronic I beg to differ because in my opinion you can beat the filtration with the newest rainbow. anyways I will probobly go for the bolero mostly because it is the highest end model they have right now. Thanks

Well, well, well child.

Let's not get defensive here, don't take it so literally. I wasn't trying to claim that it had the best filtration, so you don't need to argue. The filtration is just as good (if not better) than one of those glorified water fountains. With a Miele, you change the bag on a 1-2 month basis and change the HEPA filter on a yearly basis, instead of dumping out filthy water, rinsing a basin, removing and cleaning a separator, and having to worry about not storing the machine on the basin, all of this after each use. With a Miele, you use it and put it away and perform your monthly/yearly maintenance.

So, I'd suggest you think twice when you try to claim that whatever you personally like is "superior".

Hi Scott You sound like you really are sorry thats all that counts. I know being almost 14 is not easy in many ways i was their Many,many years ago. Sometimes when you write things down you have to think twice how it will sound. I too,have the Meile S7 Bolero model.The machine works well-its a Meile first-an upright vacuum designed and built by them.However,---I like my Kirbys better.The Meile is easier then the Kirby with hose use.However when one of the other VCC members had trouble with his Meile hose-I stopped using the hose on mine.It is an interesting and effective two motor upright-it is CERTAINLY better than the Royal Powercast.

Meile S7 Tango

Is the one that I have. It seems to be a good machine. But not as good as my Kirby's IMO. As far as Rainbow goes not that I dislike them because I don't. I have a SE Performance Edition which I love. I also have a E Series E2 which I dislike, it is a very noisy machine and 6 months after I got it the two-speed switch on it broke (It only runs on high speed now) The new rainbow would have to be cosiderably quieter for me to spend that kind of money on another rainbow. And I still have my good old Chrome dome, it is ancient but it still works just fine...... Down off my soap box now... Ducks and runs!

what do you think of?

I used one at a vacuum store. It seemed to have a very heavy "feel" to the handle and was somewhat difficult to push and pull on the test carpet. It was a beautiful color and I liked the styling. The bags did seem to be expensive and for me I would not like having to store the filth,dirt and germs in the closet.
Although the Rainbow is not the easiest vacuum to use, I can use my Rainbow that is now 18 years old and ALWAYS get a lot of sand and grit in the pan no matter what vacuum has been used before.
On the subject of the Rainbow, I read a good idea from a Rainbow user. He bought 2 separators and just exchanges them once a month and puts the dirty one in the dishwasher.
I do think the Rainbow chrome storage rack is a big help to store the equipment and the fact that the newer machines can store the motor unit on the dolly is a help too.
I tried what the instruction book tells the user to do and stored the basin under the counter in the bathroom so its easy to fill and empty.
I think both Miele and the Rainbow are very good but it depends on the type of house and what type of "housekeeper" the user will be in its application.
It is my understanding that the newest Rainbow has a big increase in air flow,suction and 35% decrease in noise level from the newest motor.
