So, I know we all take great pride in keeping our homes clean. But everyone has a chore that they hate. What does everyone think is the worst chore?

For me, it's cleaning the oven. I love that moment when you can look at your freshly cleaned house and feel relaxed and satisfied. But the oven is not something you regularly stand and admire. It also seems to get filthy with very little use.

So, what's yours?

Al,

Oh yes, another horrible one! You do all your ironing, get it folded, put away, admire your empty ironing basket. And then suddenly, BANG, next week, there are the same clothes that all need bloody ironing again. It's so thankless and doesn't really give you any sense of achievement.

I also hate washing up. Standing over a sink full of dirty water scrubbing away - urgh! It's also a complete waste of time, seeing as we now have labour saving devices to do this for us. Dishwashers are far more energy efficient, hygienic and give better results than hand washing.

Worst chores:- washing up, bathroom cleaning, putting clothes away, etc
Best chore:- Vacuuming

Worst household chores that must be done!

Ironing, dishes, changing bedding, cleaning windows, vacuuming pet hair off of sofas, hanging clothes on the washing line!

Just a few. :P

Largely I don't mind anything in the kitchen as I tend to keep everything clean on a weekly basis AND now that I'm at mt parents home, I've changed a few things in the kitchen to make life easier to prevent the dislike of having to wash down so many appliances on a weekly basis. To make life easier I have:

Lined the food cupboards with an adhesive "metal look" flush liners that ensures jars/tins and general food prep can be obtained far more quickly and more safely as well as the shelves now being so much quicker to clean down.

I have hidden the electric gadgets my parents had away; if I don't require them, there's no need to leave them out.

Bought one of those "neat ideas" hand duster things to get around the kitchen and a 4 door over the door hook system that allows me to store the vacuum cleaner tools to hand when I require them. The hooks also have a back pack off them that holds disposable dust bags, filters etc.

Bought one of those "plastic bag saver" carriers and nailed it to the wall instead of excess bags lying around.

Generally, trying to think of a task I hate is difficult - if there is probably one task I'm not keen on, it would be ironing but I don't see that as a task that happens in the kitchen OH and cleaning the 1970's "Rima" darn cooker hood - fine if there's filters inside but its the outside that needs to be taken apart and scrubbed.

Cleaning the outside drains, the kitchen sink runs into the one and the fats and oils that solidify in it is just disgusting.

Two immediately come to mind for me ... cleaning the cat box, and cleaning the bathroom (toilet in particular). I pretty much enjoy all other housework, especially vacuuming and polishing the floors of course!

I'm not crazy about doing dishes, but I do enjoy washing, folding and ironing laundry and making up the bed with fresh sheets & comforter once a week.

I have 17 rabbits, I use a Karcher shopvac for cleaning up there pellets. Its works a treat, They roam free around my one side of my garden but use a corner for there Toilet so it needs cleaning.

My most hated Chore is cleaning windows, But i hate dirty windows.

A close second used to be Ironing but we recently got a New MorphyRichards Iron with a two meter cord and a real heavy base. Its made ironing a much more pleasant task

Dusting? Cause you can kill yourself and its right back in no time. Plus I am the type to dust brush with the vacuum first then dust cloth .

My neighbour had 2 big rabbits, one was a male ginger and white, other female, black and white, their fur colours were like that :) with a stripe on the back :D and my neighbour also got a baby ginger rabbit on his b-day but later it got either lost or stolen :'( he also has 2 parrots, a cat called whiskers, some fishes and I think that's it
We gave away our yellow bellied turtle

Dusting and dishes.

If we have company then we run the dishwasher for that meal. Otherwise for a small household we just wash everything by hand per meal. It doesn't take too long, but its still annoying. Sometimes I feel like we should just use the dishwasher more often than social gatherings. It would make each meal less tedious. Female head of household doesn't like the idea of dirty dishes sitting in her kitchen dishwasher or anywhere. Everything needs to be clean and away, so to be smart, we Males, follow the Female Boss's orders!

Next most disliked chore is dusting. I find it tedious, to do the job properly! Everything needs to be organized and put away first. Then you have to dust, moving things out of the way as you go and swapping the rags the whole time. I use one rag with Windex for phones, lamps, computer peripherals, formica furniture, etc. Second rag is Pledge, for wood only. Many times I also use the Pledge Multi Purpose spray but I still use two rags cause the glass cleaner is less expensive. Dusting gets done about every week. Therefore its not too bad, no need to vacuum furniture first. The only time I vacuum for dusting is when I clean tops of wall units, cabinets, inside windows, etc. Otherwise rags with a little cleaner tackle the primary furniture perfectly.

Definitely the oven. It's not just a gross job, but incredibly tedious as well, and something I personally don't get any satisfaction from. Next time I buy an oven the number one priority is that it will be a pyrolytic self cleaner, and any other features will be of secondary importance.

The only things I iron are collared shirts (I prefer them starched) and perhaps the occasional pair of jeans if deeply creased. Other than that, I hang or fold everything straight out of the dryer while still warm and consider it to be "good enough". If it bothered me that much, I'd get an ironing lady instead.

Dishes, I will not do. I don't have room for a full size dishwasher, or even a slimline one, but was determined to come up with something and eventually managed to shoehorn in a countertop machine. Always dismissed the idea of these previously, but after living with it for a few days was surprised to find that you really can fit quite a lot into them. Everything goes in, including pots, pans, oven fittings, extractor hood filters and so on. Two years on, I still think this is one of our better buys.

Don't like dusting one bit, so I try to make it as easy as possible. That means very little in the way of ornaments and clutter lying around the place. No bookshelves, no CDs/DVDs on show and absolutely no cabinets full of knick-knacks! I find having lots of stuff depresses me; being surrounded with things everywhere I look makes me feel hemmed in, and knowing I then have to look after and clean it all feels like a massive imposition on my time. If I see flat surfaces that can be quickly dusted over without having to clear junk out of the way first, I'm much happier all round.
