What do you like/love when vacuuming?

Hi

Newbie "member" here, although I have been reading the posts for a couple of years !

I was very interested to read "VacuumLovers" question about what we like about hoovering..and even MORE interested to see the replies, as a lot of them are the same as my likes too.

Ever since seeing my mum start hoovering all around me with her "Hoover Junior" and its firm, and warm inflated dustbag about 45 years ago (!!) I have loved the sound of the beater bar vibrating the carpet. I have also strong memories of that "rubbery/musty" smell that those older softbag uprights gave off. And again, like others have posted on here, I love the sound of grit chinking into the bag too. The BIG thing that I find interesting and appealing on any softbag upright is the inflated dustbag ! The larger the bag the more cool I find it. I have a small collection of unrefurbished uk softbags which rotate from time to time as they break down and I replace them lol.

All my life I have wondered WHY I love to see women hoovering and what happened in my childhood that sparked this interest ? But I cant honestly say I know why, apart from the fact that someone once suggested that seeing mum hoovering was kind of a "reassuring" thing to me, but as I got older it developed into more than that.

Whatever the reason, vacs have been a BIG part of my life since childhood and have given me lots of pleasure.

As a final note to "vacuumlover" and other ladies, I would love to know have THEY wondered why they like to see things like inflated dustbags, and also the vibrating noise of the beater bar on uprights ?

Regards to all on here and "xx" to "vacuumlover" !

Dude, stop being freaky! You'll scare the only female collecter there probably is in the UK, your chat up lines must be shite...

Back on topic, for me it's trackmarks! Dunno why, but nice trackmarks.

Also, its getting a £1 nice old vac, using it when it doesnt work very well as it's not seen a belt in 20 years and a bag thats older than my driving license etc, then refurbishing it to as new as it could ever possibly be short of coming out the box, then using it again and feeling the difference! Can't beat that.

Any particular vacuums with separate brush bar motors parwaz786?

I've never had any issues with the vacuums I've owned that have separate brush bar motor.

Yep! Glad DC25 PBC's don't really fail, it's either the loom, very very easy peasy to fix or the brush motor.
I hope the DC50 brush motor is more reliable than the DC24 and DC40 one

Your wrong, yes I repair & restore equipment both for myself and others. I also collect different Vintage Electrical / Electronic equipment, but that's for the pleasure of restoring them to working order & as near original condition as possible, not to sit on a forum & wax lyrical about how they sound or pick up etc.

To me Vacuuming is a chore that has to be done, like taking out the trash.

So as my original answer, my favourite part is when it's over. Then I can sit down with a cuppa or get on with something more important.
