I got this one yesterday, found on Craigslist for $50, came with all the attachments and in very good, fairly clean condition, though I still gave it a good cleanup. I haven't really got to use it yet, I will tonight though. What I am curious about is how well the set of reusable filters actually filter, the was some dust after them when I got it, but they needed a good washing and that usually seems to get the filter catching dust well again. I'll report back tonight with more commentary and a video too!

Mine filters really well

And with the box filter that fits on the exhaust port, I've not seen any dust. I do like when the suction starts to slow a bit, time to empty which is great, just brush off the filter, I've vacuumed off both of them but not washed them for fear of it losing the capability of holding the dust. I think my brushroll might be a filter queen but I'm not 100% sure, because it uses a filter queen belt. This remind me of the Fairfax minus the bags. Cheers!!!! Mark D.

I used it and it did great. I really like it, the hose is too short though. On the filters, they seemed to do very well, in one use no dirt made it to the second filter as it was white still.

The ONLY bagless vacuum cleaner that REALLY works!I have three of these-a brown one from a yard sale, two later black models-one I bought new from the former WM dealer that was in Greenville(closed down due to owner bad health reasons)and another black model that was from the trade in pile at Greenville Sew&Vac.

Fairfax without the bags about sums it up - it's a bit more convenient than a Silver King with its disposable filter, and clogs less than the older SK filters. It's about even, in my opinion, with the newer ones. Doesn't filter as well as a Filter Queen, in my opinion, but it's not too far off.

I have found that if you use the new style Silver King filters (the Hepa ones) in between the Water-Matic filters (placed on top of the dirt container's cloth filter), you have exceptional filtration and a system that takes forever to clog up. 20 years ago, at the first VCCC meeting held at my home in St. Louis, I demonstrated the suction and airflow capacity of the Water-Matic by sucking up two full Hoover type A bags of dirt, without losing suction or airflow. It's an awesome vacuum, even though it's somewhat basic. Love mine.

So far I love mine too, it seems to really clean well and is very well built. I haven't noticed much dirt getting past the first filter yet, after using it to vacuum my house twice I took the second filter out and tapped it in front of a light to see what would come off of it, nothing I could see in the light did. The fluffy dirt does seem to cling to the filter, but there;s not been any noticeable loss in power, I suspect the layers of fluff are helping keep the fine dust from caking on the filter, so that may be its secret to maintaining airflow.

Water-Magic Filter-magic

Thanks for the video. I was expecting it to be a water filtration machines by it's name.
Does anyone know if these are still being made and what is there claim to fame?

They are still made. the black model is still the new model. I believe its the water matic filter magic V. It is a good very well made metal machine however the power nozzle could use an upgrade (basically a filter queen nozzle) and the hose needs to be longer. I have one that is missing the wheel dolly and I called the company about getting one. My machine is about 6 years old and according to them cost almost $3000. The wheels was $70 so I didn't get them, I just use my fairfax wheels with it.

When you buy the machine new it should come with the ball valve device you use in place of the filters. This allows for wet pickup. It won't hold much water-less than a gallon-only good for spills.A separate wet hose should come with the machine as mine did.If you get an old machine just make sure the rubber ball valve ball isn't cracked or dried out-it won't work-allowing water to get into the motor. The machine does have a bypass motor though. If water gets into it-will corrode the fans. The Fairfax cleaners I have have provisions for bags-The newer one I have has a bag feed horn in the base.So far have found Sears bags fits it.Never used the Fairfax without a bag-think it would be messier than the Water Matic. The WM doesn't have a bag horn.As I indicated earlier-just vacuum out my WM every month with a NSS M1.Also use the M1 to clean the filters.Don't have any paper filters that go with the machine-would be so nice if someone made Filtrete filters you could use in front of the cloth ones to keep them cleaner. The dirt hitting the Filtrete one first.Have never used or seen a Silver King vacuum-they appear to be real commercial quality machine-same with the WM.Have heard of the Silver Kings used commercially.-but not the WM.There used to be a WM dealer in my area-he had to retire becuase of health reasons. There were a lot of WM's sold in the Greenville,NC area. The two black ones I have are just like in the video clip. The trade in one I got I had to clean it out good becuase it was owned by someone that had a smelly dog.Since the WM dealer is no longer active-would have liked to replace the cloth filters.Sometimes washing won't get the dog smell out.Instead using LOTS of Featherlite deodorizer-this is working.

The wet pickup kit came with mine-but didn't come with the shampoo attachment. The machine I got from the yard sale had the wet pickup hose and ball valve, too. That one didn't come with the shampooer either.

Ebay has one now

It's the SE model I think it's the 2 speed. I have model VI, but not 2 speeds. Looks in pristine condition, price isn't bad, minus the carpet shampoo kit. Cheers!!!! Mark D.
