I have a Hoover Model 543 that is pretty much in all original condition (including bag). It runs great, but the bristles on the brush roll are pretty much shot. It appears that these brush strips could be replaceable, but I wouldn't even know where to begin to find a set for it. Does anyone have a spare set of them, or know where I might be able to find some online? Thanks! I appreciate it! The brush strips look very similar to the photo below (which I actually found here on Vaccumland).

I have used Don in the past, he does excellent work, and I will indeed send it to him if necessary, however if they're replaceable, I'd prefer to do it myself and save on the postage and time waiting. I have an older style brushroll I'm going to be sending him soon to re-bristle, so I don't want to overwhelm him too much! Thanks for the suggestion!

brush strips

I have boxes of brush strips that I have tried to sort out. Early brush strips only had 4 digit part #'s then went to 5. The bigger problem with many early Hoover machines, is that the brush could have been changed out over the years. In the picture above, the top agitator is made of aluminum, while the bottom is steel. You see the top brush all the time in the 700, 725,750, and 800. The 543 had 3 different series, First Series was serial #'s 4,000,000 to 4,092,000. This series part # for the hair brushes are #8639 long brush and #8640 for the short brush. The second and third series both use the same brush strips. Starting from serial #4,092,001 on the nylon brush part #'s are 8955 long and #8956 for the short. I have these available as well as brush part #'s 4640 and 4639 which are nylon. for the First Series. Other brushes I have are 86181 long and 86182 short. 86185 long and 86186 short. Curved brushes 82667 long and 82668 short, and the model 115 brushes part #42773 which are the same length on both sides. Problem is, on many of the 5 digit brush part #'s, I am not sure what they fit. I guess its time to break out the old microfiche. Brush strips will be $6 a set plus $1.50 postage. Email me at [email protected] Note: this is not the email tied to my Paypal account.

Thank you so much! I will try to get the strips out either this evening or tomorrow and let you know which ones I need. I'll be in touch soon! Thanks again!

model 28 brush strips

If they are curved and held in by a single screw, I do not have them. If they are held in by two screws on each brush and are the "canoe style" I only have one set left and they are nylon, not hair bristles. The canoe brushes cost way more, $15 shipped, and look like the picture below. The curved brushes #82667 long and 82668 short mentioned earlier fit most 60,61.90, and 91 models

Thanks, 3rdGenVacGuy.

The strips are the single screw type, so I'll keep looking.

Do you have the part# for them?
