Want to donate some vacuums

Hello everybody, I haven't had much interest in vacuums lately, mostly due to new laminate flooring in my house.

My dad and his girlfriend want to donate some of our vacuum cleaners to Goodwill since we have so many. All of them are in fully working condition. Here is what I have:

Bissell C4 Cyclonic canister vacuum - Free from Amazon Vine. Excellent condition. A great performer, very powerful suction. Great performance on carpets and hard floors. Uses a powerhead with on/off brushroll. However, it's really heavy and cumbersome to drag around. Includes all attachments and powerhead. Fully cleaned up and ready to use.

Dirt Devil Featherlite Cyclonic - Owned by my dad's girlfriend. A cheap bagless vacuum, like a Walmart special. Poor performance, filters clog easily. In rough shape and needs to be refurbished.

Eureka AirSpeed Unlimited Rewind - Free from Amazon Vine. Impressive vacuum for the price ($100). In excellent condition. Has a retractable cord. Cleans great, features on/off brushroll for hard floors. Includes crevice tool, extension wand and turbo brush. Missing dusting brush. Primary filter is clean, exhaust filter is dirty from carbon dust. All cleaned up and ready to use.

Hoover WindTunnel 2 Rewind Pet - Free from Amazon Vine. A fairly affordable vacuum for pet owners. Has a retractable cord. In good condition, has some broken parts, namely the cord clip and dirt cup hinge. Cleans great on carpets using the WindTunnel technology. Performs poorly on hard floors. Belt is still in great shape. Includes all attachments. May need refurbishment.

I have uploaded individual photos below. What should stay and what should go?

No way!

That is NOT what this thread is about. It's about any vacuums I want to donate to my local Goodwill, so these machines are not for sale.

Besides, even if I were to ship the Bissell canister, it weighs over 30 lbs., which would make it very expensive to ship to your location.

However, I too would have read this as wanting to dispose of vacuums and if you were wanting to donate them, and someone on the site would have liked the machine, they may have been able to acquire it. 


 


Otherwise, so you are being benevolent and donating unused items.  Just do it and don't talk about it.  It actually cost more time to post the pictures and this thread than to just drive them to the donation center.

Here is what I would do

I would keep the Bissell canister. It sounds like due to your new flooring, this machine will suit your house well. Canisters are great for floors and in my opinion, are just more convenient all around. I for one HATE using an upright for stairs and upholstery.

I guess I am not as generous of a person so if I had those machines, I would try to sell any of the others on Craigslist (except maybe the Dirt Devil) before I would go and donate them to Goodwill. Of course, I may be in a different financial situation than you are in. Newer bagless uprights like those could easily go for $25-30 each on Craigslist, in my area at least.

Another option I would consider if I was in your situation is that I would keep the Bissell canister and the Hoover. It's always good to have a backup vacuum to use and the Hoover is definitely a better machine than the Eureka or Dirt Devil, even with the broken parts. That's just my take.

I forgot about your flooring so in that case, the Eureka may actually be a better backup vac due to the brushroll switch.

Maybe a local church has a flea market, or

Goodwill,  Purple Heart,  or Sally's. They'll geet machines, you'll get a tax slip.  I'd keep the Hoover, yes.

Kitty was on my lap as I was typing.  I meant they (the organization to whom you donate the machines)  they'll get great machines and you'll get a tax slip...a receipt fpr a tax deduction. It's hard to type with a cat (or two) on your lap.

I know how that feels.

Earlier today, I decided to perform a little rehab on the Dirt Devil. Took the entire thing apart, rinsed the filters, washed the tools, washed some parts and wiped down the hose, main body and power cord. I just need to put everything back together, and the machine will be ready for donation!

The Hoover or the Bissell would be good to keep. But it depends on your flooring needs.

I'm surprised on your harsh refusal of someone in this forum interested in one of your machines!! Any machine you donate to Goodwill, they are going to give you $0 and then they're going to do absolutely nothing to it except slap a sticker on it for probably around $40!!!

Anyone willing to get machines from you would surely be prepared to pay shipping for the item. Paypal is the best way for shipping and receiving as it protects both of you. In the end, you'd be helping out a fellow collector and might make a new friend in the end!

FedEx has very reasonable prices and in my experience is lowest priced shipper for that size package. Shipping across the country with them is only around $45 +/- a few depending on the box size and distance. The Bissell would not require too large of a box as many other canister vacs as as the floor head is smaller than an electric power head.

I recently received a Bissell Big Green commercial duty carpet cleaner last week. It was a huge box weighing in at 60 pounds which shipped from Florida to Pennsylvania. Shipping was only around $50!!

Just my 2 cents from experience of shipping and receiving numerous machines over the years.

I've never really thought about using PayPal and FedEx for shipping.

Anyway, my dad wants to donate 2 vacuums, the Dirt Devil and a second one. I'll probably give up the Bissell, because it's way too heavy and unwieldy for us. I'm sure any Goodwill shopper would appreciate one of these machines!

As I've stated in reply #2, shipping out free vacuums to people in other states is not what this thread is about.

The donation decision has already been finalized. The Hoover and Eureka vacuums are the ones I'm keeping.

About it next time. Sorry to sound hateful, but the unnecessary rudeness, MORE THAN ONCE to people on here is astounding. This site is for vacuum cleaner enthusiasts, so it's pretty normal that you might get asked about a machine. I don't know what your glitch is but there definitely seems to be one. You were contemplating giving away a machine, and someone asked about it, and offered to pay shipping, costing you nothing more than it would to take it to goodwill. The simple truth is, there was really no reason whatever to ask about which machines to donate in the first place. Clearly it's up to you what you keep, and nobody here could care less probably. You're the one that had to determine what works best in your household. I'm not sure what the reasoning was, but it's no great deed to donate a couple of vacuums to goodwill that will probably make them $25 total for the two. It's not the make a wish foundation for goodness sakes. I'm sure you think I'm an ass, but I've had my fill of people online today, so forgive me if I'm too harsh. Seriously though, don't come to someone else's house to ask a question, if you're going to act like that when someone maybe misunderstands your original post, and asks a question about something that interests them. Even if they didn't misunderstand, maybe they thought it wouldn't hurt to ask, which it didn't. All you had to say is, sorry, those are the machines I decided to keep, and the others are already gone. I don't run this site, but I've been around a long time, and I can recognize a new poster. How it started

I created this thread because we were donating some machines, and I was seeking advice on which vacuums to keep and what to donate. I am sorry for my rudeness to the members who misunderstood. I wouldn't talk to teachers like this, and neither to my elders. If I create a thread on Vacuumland, I expect it to stay on topic. I know it has happened before, but it aggravates me if a thread strays too far off topic.

In the end, I'll just have to be benevolent and decide for myself about donating unneeded vacuums. I won't make a thread like this again. It has become clear to me that posting about donating vacuums is unnecessary. I am 22, so I'll need to behave like the adult that I am and let things go.

Isn't that big a deal, and it certainly didn't stray "too far" off topic, if at all.
