Another part of the Electrolux AF found in the hallway closet. What I thought was a Bissell carpet sweeper was a carpet sweeper labeled Electrolux thick on one side and thin on the other, maybe for the carpet that your were using it on. I asked my mother if she purchased it from Electrolux and she said that when she purchased the power nozzle the summer after she bought the Electrolux AF, told her neighbor about the power nozzle and then she also purchased the power nozzle the next day. The Electrolux man gave that to her for referring the neighbor to him. The Electrolux carpet sweeper is the same color as the AF cream & gray with a cream bumper. I asked her if she ever used it because it looked new, used it once and put it in the closet because she felt that it was hard to push on thick carpets and didn't work that well. I my self, didn't know that Electrolux made a carpet sweeper, or maybe Bissell made it and Electrolux put their name on it. Any Thoughts about this?

Your Grandma's closet is like an archaeological site with lots of fascinating surprises emerging for all of us to scratch our heads over. If anyone here would know anything about this carpet sweeper it would be Rucksucker.

"-carpet sweeper-"--Don't think it was Bissell, maybe Wagner? I may still have one that matches the AF and in 60s there was one with early Gs.This was one of a few 'trade' items over the years. It could be added to the contract and then that amount subtracted for a trade in allowing the salesman to get full commission for the vac and customer getting a useful item.Or as above a salesman could use that or a pack of bags for referrals.

Also found in another closet, a Electrolux garment bag hanging in the closet containing several wool items and a fur coat. Also on the shelf was a never used in a unopened box, another garment bag. In the back of the closet I found the origional box that the Electrolux AF came in, containing several winter blankets used for storage new in their sealed packages that must be forty years old with Grand Way Department store tags on them. Hoping to find the origional box that the power nozzle came in. Lets hope!

This is like an episode of Indiana Jones !

I'll see what I can do, as soon as I finish cleaning out the house. I did make a few changes to vacuum. I had a few new old stock parts that were given to me from a retired Electrolux salesman that was in the business for fifty five years. I changed the bag door, that now has the rubber bumpers, replaced the rear plastic wheels with white model "G" rear rubber wheels and also the front caster that was hard plastic to the new style soft rubber wheel. Now it rolls over hard wood floors and I don't have to worry about the wheels scratching the floor. I don't know if it's me, but vacuum seems to be much quieter on the wood floors. I did save the origional parts if I want to change it back to it's old self.

The power nozzle had to have been added after the machine was originally sold. In 1958, Electrolux began to make the Cord winder shown in my photo. The rubber bumpers were added to the front door that year as well. The power nozzle did not launch until the middle of 1959. Most Electrolux sales men at that time were initially afraid of it and did not want to sell it after decades of telling people why a rotating brush was bad and harmed your carpet. By the time the model G launched in 1960, they had enough turnover of salesmen that the salesforce began to embrace the power nozzle.
Good Afternoon, Wanted to share some first hand information with you that I received on Thursday. I had a nice conversation with a retired Electrolux repair man that worked for Electrolux during the time the AF was manufactured. There were actually three P-1s made with the long cord that clipped to the hose. First being the same as yours, gray top, gray bumper, no overload protector and bushing block mount for the roller brush. Second version, gray top, cream colored bumper, no overload protector and the new and improved small bushing and thread guard bracket to help prevent thread buildup around the bushings. Third version, cream colored top, teal colored bumper, no overload protector and same bushing style used on the second version. The long power nozzle cord was used with new Electrolux model G that came out in 1960 attaching to the front door of the vacuum. The second version of the model G had the power nozzle outlet located on the side of the vacuum by the front wheel. That's when Electrolux introduced the two pieced hose cord and shorter cord on the power nozzle. That makes sense to me because he also told me that when the first run of the B-7 polisher came out the machine was the same color as the model AF cream handle, base and gray top and gray bumper. The second version was the same except for having a cream colored bumper. the new storage tray and wax control lever on the handle. The instruction manual that came with my polisher shows a dark gray bumper where mine is cream colored, so that makes me think that my polisher & power nozzle was the second version. What are your thoughts? Dave
