Vorwerk

Very Nice! US had Vorwerk as the Bigelow(carpet maker)Vacmaster in early 60s and later VW sales offices in early 80s.The sold many in my area.

Thank you for scanning those, i love looking at vac manuals!
Even tho i cant read or speak Italian, these are really interesting. I have never seen or heard of a Vorwerk before joining this club.
Notice one of the brushes for the polisher head is called a "Spazzola."
And the woman'a hair style who is vacuuming out the car. lol
Havnt seen a beehive like that for awhile!
The woman in the early manuals look like they are dancing! haha

If these machines were ever sold in the Midwest US, i must have misssed it, because i have never seen or heard of them before.
My local vac shop has been in business here since 1957, and ive never seen anything like this in their basement junk pile,(of which there is practically ANY make and model or attachment ever avalible here, or at least remenants of some sort left) and the owner's son who now runs the shop said he has never had any such thing come in for repair in the 40 yrs he has been there, so i dont think they were ever sold in my area of the US.
Very Cool tho, wish they would have been!,,thank you!

Vorwerk

Tommy,Thanks again even though I now feel somewhat illiterate. But I can look at the pictures!Of the countless vacs I have seen only maybe 3 would be older VW.Never saw the floor polisher. When we had VW sales offices in mid80s the had the frischer for the Kobosan which many were impressed with.--Brian,I imagine the Vorwerk offices in US in 80s would be hit and miss as to areas covered.VW probably had no particular group of sales people unlike Viking of about the same time. When ABLux brought the Euro machines over under the name Viking that was in use for the sewing machines they had former US Elux executives from branch, division & regional levels who knew salespeople who could be hired away from US Elux over to Viking. Both Vorwerk & Viking in US seem to have been shut down overnight possibly when someone in Europe looked at sales growth or lack of.We later heard that the nearby VW office had highest sales in US.They kept 1 location in Fla for customer service. For a time myself & other vacshops would have bag & belt customers but that has faded away.

Nevermind the beehive, it was the headscarf being worn outdoors which grasped my attention. I wonder if that was included as part of the deal? I don't think I care for a vacuum cleaner being used as a hairdryer, though this is not the first time I have heard of such a thing.

Hello,
since the early 1930s any Vorwerk kobold was home demostrated with all its attachments to show its versatility. Basically it was a lightweight stickbroom or handheld/portable vacuum cleaner so everybody purchased the tools for cleaning floors and rugs and for above the floor dusting. All the other attachments were optional items and could be purchased if necessary. To tell the truth I had the chance to find many complete systems but I understand that many people just purchased the strict necessary because of the cost. In a time, righ after WWII,when electric appliances were considered "luxury items" the purchase of an expensive cleaning equipment could be justified by the variety of tasks that it could do, and for a Lady being able to use the vacuum cleaner also for drying hair or demothing guardrobes could mean saving some money in the long run. Also drying quickly their laundry in wet and cold seasons could be very convenient.
When production of model vk 117 was discontinued all these optional accessories were no longer made part of the following models, simplifying the system and focusing on cleaning.
You will see this evolution when I post the scans of later models.
Greetings
Tommy

Tommmy, this is very interesting. When the range of accessories was scaled back, did Vorwerk decide which ones to discontinue based on the popularity of them? I must say there are quite a lot to choose from. It reminded me of the Kenwood Chef mixers which were so very popular back in their day.

Hi,
no the range of accessories remained available for spare considering that most of them have been exactly the same for more than 20 years. Here in italy there are several Vorwerk-Folletto authorized repair centers which had probably in stock many attachments that in many cases, even if already disappeared from the official "spare parts booklets" are in practice still available. Colours are the same ivory and green since late 1960s. Officially only bag assemblies, powercords, bags, surface nozzles, brushes and belts for power nozzles from ET 20 on are available.
