One of my co workers has a Vitamix brand vacuum. The motor recently died in it. He has kept the filters and bag clean over the years. He would like to get it up and running again. Do the motors on those have the standard carbon brushes? or a motor similar to the Rainbow induction type motor. Also how difficult is it to service. I repair vacuums all the time at work so fixing it wouldn't be an issue if I know what I'm up against. Any advise would be appreciated? I'm thinking it is just a motor carbon issue at this time.

I do believe the vitavac machines use lamb type motors. I had a vitavac. One heck of a machine for sure.

Thank you

I was just reading some back posts and found that the Vitamix was made by Airway. Airway has gone out of business. I maybe able to get a heart beat out of it. Hope he has a resuable bag for it or he may be out of luck. I don't think I have even seen any airway products in any of my catalogs or online sources. In any event I told him today not to get rid of it. It would at least be a value to a collector.

The same motor as the Tristar CXL or DXL

If I am not mistaken your machine should use the same motor as the Tristar CXL or DXL.Two wires two fans you can find them on eBay new and used for a reasonable price, this would be a great project if you can get the machine for a low price.

Thank you. I was talking to the owner and FYI bags for the vitavac are still available from vita mix. I will discuss further with him on the repairs. Are there any schematics avaialble for the machine? I can wing it how ever some times pictures are better than ones memory

The Vita Mix bags are outrageously expensive. You are better off using the HEPA filtration bags Air-Tec. The filtration is very good and the pricing is reasonable.

I don't doubt the bags are expenive for the machine. Going thru the co. you bought it from they are going to soak you for the parts. Bags for the Kirby are not cheap at the dealer. I get the original bags for mine thru a parts supplier that I buy repair part for the vacuums at work. About a 50% savings. I do also have an open top shake out bag (Like the ones on the 519 and earlier) and sani emptor for my machine also. I will pass on the info about the bags also. Where can I find those and is there a part #
