I agree, I really like my Sweeper Vac, Although yeah I will agree the batteries don't really last quite long throught the years, they're going to start degrading over time, But the machine in my opinion is still quite a good one, It's probably the only stick vac I actually like, The only complaint I have with it is that you have to work it sometimes so it picks up stuff, cuz the suction on it isn't really that effective, and also the battery thing.

I have a philosophy on stick vacs, If you're dumb enough to buy one, atleast make the much smarter choice to get a cordless one.

The reason why I hate stick vacs so much is that, there isn't really much reason to have one, especially if you already have a compact upright with a brushroll shut off feature (which most vacs nowadays are extremely and ridiculously compact).

The Bernina motor and the new Air-Way motor are the same. Depending upon how much profit a vac shop wants to make off you, the motor could be replaced inexpensively enough that you should do it. If you were near me, I'd sell you a new motor and do the labor to replace it for less than $150

@dysonman1 - I was just about to purchase a motor. Looks like Ametek Lamb Powered(?)
Do you have a part number for the Air-way one? I'm having no luck searching that.

Final comment... THANK YOU!

I didn't think I had the nerve to do this but it was pretty darn easy.

A bit awkward to reassemble since you have lots of pieces to line up simultaneously, but that had nothing to do with the motor itself.

Now buying a couple small parts to clean things up, but it works and smells like nothing now.

All for under $110. Woohoo.
