Very Nice Aerus Guardian Find

I think Aerus made a bit of a mistake when they eliminated the Renaissance style body. I don't own Aerus, but if I did, this is what I would have done:

1. redesigned the gas pump style hose handle for both the Guardian and Legacy and made it smaller, along with the integrated wands and power nozzle elbow. The handle controls and machine end connector in either case would have been the same (and, in this way, the redesigned hoses could have been retrofitted to the older canisters, if the customer wanted it).

2. integrated the HEPA filter somehow into the body of the Guardian. That box filter reminds me of the "houses" that sit on top of buildings to house the elevator machine room and other building control systems.

3. eliminated either the Classic or the Legacy, and combined the best of both machines into one. They're essentially the same machines anyway, except for the top decks, hose handles, wands, and power nozzle elbows. Don't get me wrong...I love the style of BOTH the Classic and the Legacy, but if the company wanted to cut costs, this would have been a good place to start.

All this is off the top of my head, and it may not have worked, but we all have to have imagination. This is why I kind of "jumped" at this Guardian, because the style is "obsolete", and who knows when the chance to get another may come up?

Pleasant Electroluxing and Aerusing

Go back to the QUIET design "lux was famous for-when I used to have A Guardian-and it had the HEPA filter housing on top--the thing sounded like I was vacuuming my floor with a B-52 engine.Got rid of it primarily becuase of the noise.Traded the Guardian to a Meile.I thought 'Lux has now Quieted their machines and got rid of the add on filter housing.

Another part of the problem with the noise, at least on mine, is that the HEPA filter vibrates and adds another dimension of whine to the sound. Not sure if this is common to all Aerus/Electrolux machines with the box filter or not, and its not like the filter is installed incorrectly, so this might just be part of the experience.

Other than the sound (which I'm slowly learning to live with), I like all the other features, as mentioned above, and one that I forgot to mention...the top-mounted cord winder. All the other Luxes have the cord coming out of the bottom side of the machine, and the Guardian style winder is a significant improvement, especially for someone with severe arthritis, who likes to use Electrolux/Aerus cylinders. You'd be surprised how impossible bending down just a few extra millimeters becomes when you're afflicted with arthritis.

I bought the last Guardian

just last year because I couldnt pay for the new ultra an expensive version of the Classic. My Guardian is very Quiet as is my 75th Anniversary guardian. Not sure why some are saying they are noisey ? I even removed the Hepa filter to see if that would make a differance and it is the same very quiet powerful Aerus I love .

Its probably a case of "one person's noise is another person's gentle breeze", etc. I ran it without the filter; didn't make a hell of a lot of difference to the sound. In any event, I've used this machine every day, for every task, since I got it, and I'm loving it more and more.

BTW, how many different iterations of the Guardian are there? If memory serves, there was the first Electrolux branded version, then the Encore, and then a couple of different Aerus branded versions, and finally the new Ultra...I think that's right.

Or the noise level depends on the home design, if it has bare floors or carpet; if the room(s) have vaulted ceiling. I'd like to try out a Rennaissance, Epic 8000 or Guardian unit, but I haven't really heard one "in person" to find out how loud they really are.

I recently got a used version/late model.....

......Guardian as well, and I am very impressed with the machine. While I was one who was entirely used to the metal body "Super J" style of yore, I find a LOT to like in the Renaissance style setups. That tank, despite being plastic, is really well put together. The only negative is the HEPA placement/setup, but with all the other metrics - durability, performance, and features, I'm very pleased. So pleased, in fact, that I will likely buy another one plus a few expectedly needed spare parts to fortify the investment.

I don't find the noise to be problematic, unless the HEPA filter is off, and even then I can tolerate it for the short periods/limited duty it would see in that application. I had the misfortune of my Guardian arriving with the HEPA installed, breaking off one of the clips and needing to buy another.

Guardian canister + Guardian upright = one happy Aerus/Lux owner.....I have everything I want between the two machines.

Rennaissance question....

Just wondering, has anyone tried using the Rennaissance with the Hepa Filter from the Guardian? (not the Guardian Ultra). I would like to get a Renny instead of the Guardian, just like & prefer the gray color & the touch pad hose controls better. My only concern would be, would the Hepa Filter leak all over the place if used on a Rennaissance?? If anybody here has any experience with this, please do reply.

Thanks....Rob
