Vax Turboforce V006 Trash Find!

Haven't had a good, honest trash find for ages. Granted, it could have been more interesting, but hey, trash find!

It's been raining all day, so the ting is soaked!

I havent turned it on yet, want it to dry out first. The brushroll ends are seized solid too, any idea how the end caps come out for cleaning and de-hairing?

I always like these they looked so brutal and powerful one of my relatives used to have one good luck getting it cleaned up I think I'd be gagging haha

I have to wonder how in the universe someone lets a vacuum get that badly plugged. I think I'd notice something odd about the time the bin gets full, or it won't pull up any more fuzz. (And that looks like cat hair... If you've got cats, there's *always* fuzz!)

We had one of these given to us. Kept making a burning smell. We thought it was the belt and we must have gone down several of them! We got rid of it in the end, it was unrepairable

I am always amazed at what people throw out. I found a Kirby Ultimate G in the trash a few days ago. There it was hose wrapped around the handle just lying their ontop of the dustbin. It looked terrible but still ran sort of. Broken fan. I will fix it up and resell it.

The clog defies belief! The hair has stopped the brushbar rotating too, it's jammed it solid.

I plugged it in earlier, and it ran sweet as a nut. It wasn't too noisy, and it has a headlight! I hadn't seen that.

The swivel rear wheels are pretty funky, make it impossible to push when upright though.

I've facebooked Vax and asked them how to remove the end caps. Hopefully the brushroll is saveable.

One thing I love about the Turboforce is the ad on TV, it always sticks in my mind for some reason.

I'd have probs given up on that wayyyyy before hand!

Personally, I always liked how Dirt Devil and Royal used the swivel rear casters, and still like it better than the swivel at the neck that they do now.  We had a green ULTRA VISION upright, much heavier, when I was a kid. I remember the thing sucked a sock up and pushed it through straight into the cyclonic chamber. [/COLOR]

I tend to hold onto them, Even this ran-down "Reverse-Gently" used grey Ultra-Vision (Have two of those!)

Found a new set of filters and 2 belts for a fiver on amazon, as well as a new brushroll for £10 if the old one cant be saved!

It's not too bad overall. Apart from the grot in the bin, and the clog on the brushroll its not too minging.

Vax have confirmed the brushroll ends are non removeable and non servicable. Found a pattern replacement for a few peanuts on Amazon, so will get busy with the big screwdriver on the old one and see if anything can be done. I did chastise Vax for making such a simple servicable item non servicable too!

That Dirt Devil on reply 8 is the Vax Swift in the UK.

Ugh looking at the way that clogged dirt makes me feel ill!

The Swift under the Vax branding was actually the second model from the original one that was sold under the Vax name. I remember it well as my neighbour had one (she now has an old Swift) as it was bright yellow and went under the name of "Vax Big Bubble," although I call it the "Big Bugg*r" LOL

You could say it was the precursor idea to Hoover's Jazz upright in terms of the "fun" decals and colours. Also available in dark purple, (Vax VS-18) My neighbour owns a shop, so she took the old Swift and uses it there - I put her out of her misery and gave her my Electrolux Powerlite upright which is a great deal easier to push and has the manual height adjustment compared to DD/Vax's auto adjustment - at least the Turboforce has manual height adjustment.

The Big Bubble/Swift are surprisingly tough vacuums though use the paper pleated cones and the hose at the front has a habit of snapping off, making it difficult to fit when required. Also that side partition stops the machine from going low to clean under low furniture.

Only Dirt Devil I have is a purple Glide, actually works pretty well, but you do have to drag it backwards when on the casters. Unsure how old it is, brother brought it to me.

We have the machines in the last picture as the Dirt Devil Breeze/Featherlite, and I can't say they are bad machines. I have owned one and repaired several, (none needing any more than a filter or belt), and when working properly, are very powerful. The Vax at the beginning of the post, we have that here as the Dirt Devil Vision Turbo, We had one at our church, and I wasn't overly impressed. It was definitely a screamer, it was heavy, and quite honestly didn't pick up overly well. If yours has the 3 row brushroll, it will probably eat belts too.

It worked really well



I then took it downstairs, and used it some more. It then snapped one of its rear wheels out of the housing whilst I was trying to recline it. Which is a shame as it worked really well. Will try and glue it back together at some point.

Wow! Awesome rebuyild, Just wondering, Whats your daily vacuum? Mines a DC14 red (Blitz it), if you were to sell that as refurbished you would get some good profit

Would never sell it, its not worth selling! Worth even less atm with 1 missing rear wheel! Was going to loan it out to people whos dysons I rebuild. Having second thoughts about that now! Shame as it worked really well!

My daily is my Miele S5, although I ran my new Junior 1334 round last night and it did an ok job! Used a DC14 All Floors to clean out the 1334 if that helps? Needs a clutch rebuild and selling though

Oh, OK Sam, I understand now, I think the DC14 is the most reliable Dyson, next to the DC04 and DC25, and as for loaning vacs, You could always get a Cheapo Dyson for a fiver at the carboots
