Well if you get the K3, Oli I don't think you get as much flexibility with the K series - the electric cord embedded inside the hose to carry the current from the electric handle is okay to use - but for getting around corners in the car, the lighter hose from the non-electric handles are far easier in my opinion. Also I've suffered a clogged bit of paper in the embedded hose before and its a right chore getting it out, even at high suction. The non-cord hoses are so much easier and much lighter to use.

Erik, cylinder vacuums with PN's have never been popular here. We have had them, but usually just 1 per line up and they were the TOL and quite pricey.

Uprights have always been considerably more popular here. In recent years, cylinders with air driven turbo brushes have become more popular due to the increase in populatiry in laminate flooring, but uprights are still more common.

UK-US vac differences

Oddly, we have mostly uprights in the US too. It's the suction-only canisters we mostly don't get, and if you do want one, it's usually a high-end brand: Sebo, Riccar, Miele, etc.

Jade - that is bizarre. I'd have thought with the U.S having such a large market that accessories like suction only floor heads would be available to buy.

However judged purely by looking at EBAY.com it seems there simply aren't that many sellers who are stocking in suction only floor heads to offer as a single, additional purchase for any PN added vacuum cleaner. That must be pretty frustrating.

The implications are obvious - if you can't buy a single suction only floor head to add as an additional cleaning tool for your PN added canister vac - no wonder there is a market for the suction only mains power stick vacuums - another market that the UK doesn't benefit that much from.

I had a hoover canister that I just recently sold that used the same hose, wand, and powerhead. I really hated the set up, the hose is really hard to work with and the PN is just "ugh". Hoover US have discontinued that particular set up and replaced it with the air mini canister with a much better looking PN, hose, etc.


 


Sebofan, you are absolutely right. There is a shortage of good suction only canisters here and suction only floor heads are not avalible for most machines. Even if they were you would still have the heavier hose to deal with and for a lot of "canister" jobs I really prefer a suction only machine.
