Vacuums for Shop use

Here are some of the vacuum being used in my Dad's shop .

Thought you guys would appreciate.
The Air vac is custom modafied to take a Riccar x HEPA bag.
The home made Dyson charge Mount
Miele C1 compact canster. Aka s4212
Miele Art .

I would NOT want to use a Dyson or other bagless machine for vac shop technician use.A BAGGED machine like the Miele or other is better.You don't know what sort of stuff folks pick up with their vacuums-better for this unknown stuff to be packed in a bag you just throw in the garbage rather than a canister you have to dump-and breathe the stuff in the process.Plus having to clean the NASTY filters!The vac place I go to uses Miele as bench vacuums-esp at the front service bench-the place is a Miele dealer-the customer gets to see the Miele vacuum at work cleaning out their machine!Sometimes a customer will buy a Miele vacuum just like the bench one!

Shop-vac dust collection system

OMG why dont you just invest in a Shop vac whit dust collection system THOSE MACHINE are Not meant to be used in a shop at all .Shopvac vacuum companies makes a wonderful pluming system to connect all your tools to the main vacuum .

Our serviceman when I worked at Kirby, used a Filter Queen as his bench vac. 


It's ok to use a home vac for those purposes.  I would think a Miele would be good, though expensive bench vac.  You would have a very sanitary bag in which to deal with the mess cleaned out of customer's machines.

The vac shop I frequent uses Mieles as their bench vacs-one at each bench workstation-two in the back of the shop-one bench at the front for "quick" fix jobs.The shop owner feels the Mieles as bench vacs is worth it-and puts in a demo on the front one to the customer while he cleans out their machine!Their bags can hold a LOT of stuff!Think they are better than the old dusty Filter Queens of the past.

Shop Vac dust collectors are not good for multiple machines or large volume woodworking machines such as planers.For a large woodworking shop you need a REAL dust collection system-4,6 in hoses ,adaptors with gates at each tool.The gates allow you to shut off airflow to tools not being used.Real shop dust collectors don't have the high suction a SV has-but VERY high CFM-and the ability to pass large shavings without clogging.The SV is a great shop vacuum for cleaning the shop-but not as a dust collector-unless you have ONE machine like a table saw or sander.And use the bag in the SV machine-the pleated filter will clog QUICKLY with sanding-sawdust.Speak from experience.And most shop dust collectors are actually "direct air" the debris passes thru a VERY large cast metal or welded steel fan.The fan is powered by a 1.5 Hp-7Hp 3450 RPM induction motor blowing into a filter cyclone system or bag.Clean arir dust collectors the material goes into the cyclone before the fan-the fan passes the "fines" into a filter,or bag.
