Some wet&dry vacs
The store's vacuum section was actually very messy with models standing on the floor and just in a genral state probably still needing restocking after Christmas

Gsheen, reply #36, the green & grey cleaner was sold here in the late 1980's and early 1990's as the Electrolux Masterlux, though with a different recovery bucket. It was one of the first major competitors for the original Vax 3-in-1 system, in fact in many ways was a better carpet cleaner as it had a pump and a professional carpet nozzle. I found you a video (I do not know which member -if any- here it belongs to)

Reply #40, this came later as the Twinstream, to replace the Masterlux. Same person has a video of this too, but I also found a picture which is easier to identify with as it does not have the shampoo bucket in place.

Yes the Z85 is similar to those, The aqua lux ( Blue one ) is totally different developed in SA for our market. Its a wet&dry vac only vacuum and uses a extended tub of the Original base vacuum only version of the twin stream also called the aqua lux. How ever from there upwards its totally SA developed , In fact this is the second incarnation of this vacuum. The first used a different bucket but it was replaced by this one to save costs by sharing the bucket of the Z85

The Twin stream was on the market here as a stopgap model ( imported ) to compete with the Hoover Aquamaster which sold up a storm here until we developed our own Model the typhoon ( with out a pump to compete at the same price level.
This was later replaced by the Z85 ( imported ) The later made here with a Double stage vacuum motor.
The Z85 extractor vac uses the same lid as the Master lux but underneath is completely different, It has more in common wit the later Z85 but has a bigger bucket and a single stage motor.

I am looking for a twinstream, Its one of my most wanted machines.

No idea I am sorry. I don't think I ever even had one for repair. Of all the 3-in-1 cleaners on sale, Vax outsold the lot. Hoover must have been a close second I think, but the Electrolux cleaners just didn't cut it on the UK market, it seems. The Masterlux was better for carpet cleaning, but much too bulky for daily vacuuming, as the tubes were a lot wider and the cleaner so much bigger than Vax and Hoover.

Interesting

In your photos Gareth, there are cleaners under the name logik which is funny as we have our own logik on the UK, but it is our own brand. It used to have the same font as in your photo, it's changed slightly.

They're just really cheap awful things, with the cone filter. The upright is falling apart (seriously it is, the recline pedal fell off) so now it won't lock upright. The suction is rubbish, and when you take the cylinders apart, there's a strong toxic plastic smell.
Nope, wouldn't buy either, no thanks, although there seem to be discontinued. Yayh at last, won't have to see the dreaded bloody things!

The Vax never sold in great numbers here, The Hoover aquamaster did in Great numbers until Electrolux Launched the Typhoon, Eletrolux has always sold very well in SA and many people still buy the brand simply because they remember there Moms S1000 or 506

UK consumers are not the most loyal of people. Many of them rushed out to buy a Vax or broke the trend of buying a particular brand when their last cleaner wore out, in favour of Vax. Vax was a bright, heavily advertised gimmick, and the UK consumer loved them.

Vax also pushed wet carpet cleaning to the front of the consumers mind. Before that, few people seemed all that bothered about cleaning their carpets themselves, and indeed I doubt many who bought 3-in-1 cleaners probably cleaned their carpets with any regularity, even after the purchase was made. Never the less, other manufacturers quickly saw the need to bring out their own versions, with Hoover satisfying their ever-loyal consumer with a machine to rival Vax. I never recall Electrolux making much fuss over their cleaners in the same way as Vax and Hoover did.

We also had some very inexpensive cleaners too, like the Goblin and Moulinex, both of which focused on the budget consumer. Neither was particularly great in quality and performance.

I think the machine that did the best here was probibly the Bissell Big Green clean Gen 1. It was awesome. I still have one and think the idea behind 3in1 cleaners was not to clean the entire carpet yourself but to maintain the carpet and still have it done once a year by a professional. Its very handy to keep the carpets looking nice with pets and kids about.

In the UK

3-in-1 was certainly sold as a method to dispense with professional carpet cleaning - indeed Vax literature used to refer to the potential savings one could make by buying a Vax. However, a very well established carpet-cleaner aquaiatince of mine once stated that the sales of Vax and other 3-in-1 cleaners was having little impact on their business. He attributed this to "target" 3-in-1 consumer being the type who would rarely bother to have their carpets cleaned at all, with or without the facility to do so at their disposal.
