Vacuum store displays in the UK

Those Samsungs look nice!

Gareth, we do indeed get the Precision in the UK now I looked at one in Currys and it looks really good not as bulky as the Nimble.

I love walking the vacuum isle in my local Currys, I just hate the constant "can I help you with anything" from the staff in my local branch, I find John Lewis to be much more relaxed not as bothersome.

Ah that might be your branch, but we are told to walk past a customer whilst making eye contact, and greet them with morning, afternoon or just hello, whilst remaining visible if we're needed.

Some people get the wrong impression of this friendly greeting and adamantly state 'oh only looking!' Great, but all I said was hello! Hah

Yes ultraperformer, they do. Every time I see the motionsync's I just see a vacuum wearing beats headphones!
They're not bad, but for the cost I'd go for a Dyson any day.

All the cylinder tubes you guys see are my idea. They are not usually supposed to be there, but as I sell 'vacuums' and not ornaments they're here to stay. We would only have the legwork to get them from upstairs anyway so it makes oodles of sense

It's far more than hello in my branch it's like you will buy something lol

I really like the idea of including the hose and tubes on some of your display vacuums it's nice to know exactly what you're betting. But are you not scared some child will pull on the hose and get squashed by a falling cylinder, or on the Samsung pictured above someone will trip over the floorhead?

It's like that in Argos at Cheshire Oaks, they have about 3 staff members wandering around the shop bugging you when you're looking through the catalogues. My local Argos is good, no staff doing the above.

Currys in Oswestry went in May sadly, much like quite a few businesses in the town have gone this year, I know Savers & Julian Graves did too.

I must admit it looks like its going to go the same way here eventually. Entry level vacuums are Electrolux here in SA, For now and Top of the range are AEG. Electrolux used to be the floor care division here in SA with Electrolux AEG and Zannussi vacuums and small appliances and AEG did the large appliances This all changed about a few years ago. I wonder what Electrolux is up to with this move

It may well have to do with sales of their other brands. If the sales are down by worldwide/per country sales figures then it would make sense to pass whatever you have to the other companies. However, it surprises me that Electrolux can't forge new models for their own brand name.

Personally with a little cosmetic difference, I dont see why AERUS can't sell in the UK. I'd sooner buy an AERUS than an AEG!

hoses on cylinders

Adam, I think keeping the hose and tools out with the cleaners is a GREAT idea. Not only does it give the buyer a good view of the whole set, so they can be thinking about storage and if the tube or hose length will be too short or too long for their needs, but it also means that a customer can actually try out different models in store before buying. This is one of the things I really like about John Lewis so it's nice to see it being done elsewhere.

My local independant vacuum shop always lets a customer have a go before making a decision.

It's surprising to see Miele in a larger store; in the States I mostly only see Miele in independent vacuum shops. They do have the S2 series at Bed Bath & Beyond, but that's about it.

While I think of it, are Riccar and/or Simplicity sold in the UK?

No wonder the UK vacuum market is going downhill, when in a lot of stores like the Range, Factory Stores, department stores etc offering a choice of....
Bagless pleated filter models (usually Vax)...

All of the Vacuums my local Tesco's sells are those horrid pleated filter types, they have a Hoover Sprint / Discovery / Spirit Cylinder for £119!

Tesco's have all of the lower end Hoover Cylinders, eg Smart Upright & Cylinder, Discovery based version & the Smart Express / Alyx Upright. They also have the Vax Power Uprights / Cylinders too plus their own vacs. A poor range really.
