I was watching "Concentration" last night, the version from the early 1970s with host Bob Clayton. Naturally, my interest was piqued when one of the prizes was a vacuum cleaner. It turned out to be a Eureka canister, dark yellow in color, with a power nozzle that had a "genuine woodgrain" appliqué on the top of it. I am not really familiar with Eurekas of that era so I don't know anything about it.

There were some episodes of "Match Game" with Hoover Celebrity, Hoover Power Drive and Electrolux Super J vacuum cleaners as "consolation prizes." And one of the prizes on "Queen for a day" was a Compact.

See the attached screen shots from my TV and the link below.

Buzzr tv

Has all those old game shows on, the black & white Price Is Right had a Compact on, Let's Make A Deal keeps having Royal w/Dirt Devil handheld, Supermarket Sweep has a variety of Hoovers, Super Password has Hoover Convertible Estate.

Wheel Of Fortune

Back in the day when you would go shopping for prizes they always had self propelled Hoover Concept Ones.

Same

I had a dark blue Eureka similar to the gold model above. Sometimes referred to as "Old Iron Side" mine didn't have the p/n, just the white hose. Saw it included in a cluster of gifts awarded to "Our Grand Prize Winners" on an early Newly Wed Game show.Great performance and a bit loud!

I remember watching

the first season or two of Newlyweds and when they awarded their Grand Prize Couple, I thought is that all there is? It was laughable how skimpy some of the prizes were. "Cathy and Bob, you're going home with, a shiny new Proctor Silex Toaster Oven!" OK, not that bad, but compared to the other game shows... winners came up a little light. I can remember a few times when it looked like they were wondering if there was anything else maybe behind another curtain, Nope! The prizes got better as the show grew in popularity with bigger sponsors. Fun to watch the reruns!
