Yes they were actually fairly common! Gorgeous color. There is a bag for one on eBay currently but I couldn't find an actual unit. I didn't look very hard though.
Here is the original Hoover TV Commercial for the Hoover Elite II as seen in the movie.
The tool hose is NOT supposed to be attached to hood when in carpet cleaning mode!!! An error that was made in the movie.
That always made me mad that the hose was hooked! One of my Grandmother's old Cleaning ladies ran the Hoover PowerDirve like that. I told her it was wrong, and since I was only 3, she said i was little, and what did I know? now that hoover is in my collection, and it runs like a dream!

That was no error, that was done on purpose, as the vacuum would stick to the floor and cause the machine to be difficult for Robbin to dance with, if the hose was not inserted into the tool mode.
Why not just raise the carpet height adjuster a notch!! A Hoover Elite is not a very heavy machine and Robyn Williams was not a weak, small man either. Although they have great cleaning power, one could surely whip one around!!
I have done that dance (see above) and trust me, it doesn't glide around without the hose plugged into the slot, that elite only has two height adjustments, it doesnt raise it enough to break the seal from the carpet.
