Update on the 5.00 Goodwill G-5 Kirby,

Well, aside from a broken lower cord hook, its pretty darn nice, yes, it really cleans great...noooo, im certainly not going to make it a daily driver...tooooo heavy and wayyy too new!

What a great find. The G5 is my second favorite of the Gseries. The back of that handle can be replaced. Kent Oyler carries them in his online Ebay store. Kirby is discontinuing alot of their G series parts, but the handle back on any G model except the Sentria's will work.

Re Eureka 260 picture!


Now THAT was a great find!, my all time favorite upright, nothing has ever even come close to that Disturbulator brush roll!

Was Eurekas answer to the Hoovers beater bars, it had 3 rows of bristles, one row was short and very stiff, the others softer, nothing, and I mean nothing cleans any better, it really digs out the dirt., was in all Eureka uprights from the late 40s thru mid to late 60s, much better than the Vibra Groomers that came after it.all the square handle uprights had it, 250-255-260 ...

I've seen more broken lower cord hooks on G-5's than any other G series model. If you're not too devout about originality, you can drill a hole in the side of the aluminum arm and fit a swiveling cord hook salvaged from a junker Kirby. You can get it to stay in a fixed position by drilling a couple of shallow counter-sunk holes alongside the bolt hole you drill. Use a 7/16 head bolt with a lock washer and nut on the inside. Neatly cut off the broken pieces of the original cord hook that remain. You will have to relieve a slot in the edge of the plastic backer to allow the new nut to fit. It doesn't look all that bad when you're done and you will never break the new one off.
