My grandmother gave me a Universal Upright Vacuum cleaner that looked similar to a Hoover Model 28 except that the bag adapter was a twist on type, centered on the back. (Brown matte finish with a brown bag with Red lettering)I was pretty young at the time. My dad brought it home, but it would not turn on. My uncle Jay happened to be there with my aunt and he found a loose wire to the switch. Worked great for suction, but no belt. He asked me if they could take it home and use it as they were in the market for a suction only vacuum and I could run it whenever I was there, which was quite often...

Anyway, that vacuum lasted at least another 15 years and as they had a typical low pile carpet, it worked great for them. Truly a work horse of a vacuum. The grandmother who gave it to me had 8 children....say no more.....it was obviously very durable.

I hardly ever see posts on Universal Vacuums and I have searched the archives with little success. Does anyone have pictures of Universal Vacuum Cleaners they could post? Any would be greatly appreciated.......

Universal..

Was a product of Landers,Frary and Clark, New Britain Conn, a very heavy built quality product, it was revived in the 60s and 70s as a commercial upright, same as the earlier Universal but with a Hoover brushroll, but I can not for the life of me remember the name they put on it, it was red and chrome.

Kenkart, could the correct ANSWER be, "ANSER"?

Also, the commercial variant was known as the CarpetMaster!
