The past couple of weeks, I have been cleaning up two new-to-me Kirbys for my armada of vacuums. Finally, they are ready to roll!
First up is a GSix 2001. I'm happy to have this one since this specimen is in much better shape than my former GSix 2000, which I have now parted with to make room for the 2001. Although the 2000 was in fine working condition, it clearly had many more miles on it, indicated by the condition of its aluminum, trim, and bag. The bag on my 2001 is in perfect shape and the aluminum has sustained little by way of scratching. Score!
Although I am very pleased to have the GSix 2001, I'm even more thrilled to now have an Ultimate G Diamond Edition! This one came home with me from across the country this summer after I snagged it from Craigslist while I was out of town. After seeing the pretty diamond-patterned bag in person on a similar vacuum at a shop a couple of years ago, I have been after an attainable diamond edition in good condition. I'm beyond pleased that the one I found has the original bag (complete with curved zipper) in immaculate shape! No holes, rips, or stains, and the pattern with the gold diamond highlights looks just as bold as new. Getting a DE with a good bag was important to me since Kirby no longer makes a suitable replacement for the bag, and the one that they do offer is stupid expensive. Even the protective plastic was still on the handle label, revealing a flawless decal underneath!
Both vacuums are equipped with like-new stiff-bristle "Sentria" 152505 brush rolls and new fill tubes. Both were disassembled down to the bare base pan and every component was thoroughly sanitized. Tech-drive axles and cam levers were removed, cleaned, and re-greased with wheel bearing grease. After new genuine belt and genuine Micron Magic HEPA "cloth" bag for each, the Diamond Edition and her older sister are ready for action. Next step: Polishing the aluminum to a mirror finish, but I'll save that for another day.
