Two prong "pig-tail" versions, Thermax AF-1

     A number of months back I got a Thermax AF-1 for...free.  It is a long story for another time, but I have a question and this forum is the best pace for it!


 


The Thermax uses a Hoover designed power nozzle and its power connector is in most every way the standard, except the "body" of the plug is cut down.  This is so it can fit into the spring-loaded port on the hose.  A standard plug is too big.  Do any of you know of an adapter so that you can use any power nozzle with the hose?  My current solution is running extenders up the body of the hose into the machine (I like to use my Beam Rugmaster sometimes.  It is a great, albeit cheaply built, power nozzle) but that is clunky.  Behold the photos and thanks!

Not exactly a standard plug (broadly speaking, not just in the vacuum world). You might have to make your own :/

By the way, here is what a white electrostatic filter looks like after cleaning the first floor of my house.  There definitely is stuff getting past the water.  I think that the design allows for large air bubbles than say a Rainbow

Wow that filter does look quite dirty, is the long plastic tube in the water reservoir? There's a plastic tube that should be inserted in the reservoir for dry vacuuming, removed for extraction cleaning. I don't recall my old AF-1 ever having such a dirty filter.

The filter tube is in place.  The dust is less noticeable on the black foam filter, I will say that.  The back of the filter look brand new and I suspect that it can handle a lot of dirt before it will lose much airflow.  I also have soft water, so it isn't an issue of saturated water.

pairing with other nozzles

I also like to pair my vacuums up with other power nozzles. I do have what I think is the same thing as the beam rug master, though mine is called the Eureka express. It's a good power nozzle although it does use a flat belt and as you said, it's not as well made as some of the other ones. What I would love to find is an adapter to convert the electric plug on canisters such as the Miele, Sirena, Hyla, etc to work with the plugs that are used in the U.S. The prongs are spaced farther apart so the U.S. power nozzles will not work with these hoses. The only exception to this is the power nozzle made by Tacony which is sold for central vacuums, that one does fit these hoses. I've looked all over but an adapter coes not seem to exist though there are adapters for converting the hose end from 35 MM to 32 MM, that part is easy.

You can't break it if it doesn't fit, but you might be able to make it fit.

Mike, I have actually adapted the plug on a Dustcare PB11 for use with the SET220 electric wand on my 2007 Miele S5280 Callisto. It's very easy to do, just spread the prongs apart with your fingers a little bit. If your fingers aren't that strong, though, as long as you are gentle, you can also use a pair of pliers. You could also make a adapter cord by splicing together the Filter Queen pigtail linked above with this generic Miele powerhead cord I am linking to below.

Nicholas - That is NOT a Hoover powerhead. It's actually a Centec copy of the Hoover Futura base PN that didn't have the headlight. It was a basic central vac PN for many years before it was discontinued, & Proteam used it on the Proteam CX440 canister, which was a rebadged German Fakir S250 Supertronic canister. We got it here in Canada as the Electron Gold S220 canister, but packaged with either a Samsung or Lindhaus 12 inch PN, depending on which option the vac shop selling it chose.

I would prefer to make an adapter since I will also still use my power nozzles with U.S. plugs as well. Ideally it would plug in to the hoses with the larger plugs and then have a smaller female plug that the power nozzle cord would plug in to. I actually have several machines that use that kind of plug, the Sirena, the Hyla and the Roboclean. Interestingly, my Riccar power nozzle fits these hoses and also fits my central vacuum hose. However, when trying to use it with hoses from my Aerus machines or my Metropolitan canister, it's a loose fit so I'm guessing the prongs are slightly farther apart on this nozzle.
