Turbopower Madness

VacuumLand – Vintage & Modern Vacuum Enthusiasts

Help Support VacuumLand:

Sensotronics

The olive-green coloured model (System 2, S3128) is the one we had. Mum used it twice, then went back to her Grandmother's Hoover 'Senior' 612! So I got to use it.

Quite a useful cleaner, but not as robust as the UK made 'Freedom' range. The 'Sensotronic' range had a design flaw in the motor.

And yet more Turbopower madness!

I had a chance today to go through some pages from old copies of Argos catalogue. These were posted on Hooverland, but seem to have vanished since. Hope they help to fill some holes in the spreadsheet, Paul/Rob!

First, from Spring/Summer 1989 - a U2408 in blue. I thought perhaps it was the U2406, but it's in two catalogues as a U2408. Odd!

Spring/Summer 1992

The U2408 is now white. The other cleaners are known models, but look at the prices - especially the Freedom, which has been miscaptioned as a Turbomaster...

Autumn/Winter 1993...

No model numbers in this catalogue! I'm guessing the TP Junior is the U1290, and the Total System is the U2866, which appears in the next extract that I'll post. But the white one - it's not another U2408, note the grey height selector and wheels, bigger motor and crest on the hood rather than the bag door. what is it?

Thanks for posting the Argos piccies Simon.

Much appreciated. I am glad that i am not the only one confused by the U2408 being in blue and then white.
I also have a piccy from Hooverland of a red turbopower billed as being a U2408 as well!

what was going on with the old 2408? I ain't got the foggiest.

Have posted the red U2408 below - hope this is OK with whoever owns it.

Cheers
Paul

Hoover 'Junior' U1426

Look at the above adverts for this model.

First of all, it's a 'Sprite' in disguise (...spits in disgust, LOL...), then later, it is a proper softbag 'Turbopower'!

Saw this on Ebay Germany...

It looks like a U2718, but the seller says its a U2784 - a Europe only version maybe? I love those colours (is it another glittery one?), and its an autoflex!

Wow!

Incredible collection!

That grey Dial A Matic is beeeautiful! I also see that the Swingette/Port A Power was made on the other side of the pond...

Fantastic!

Guys...

Thanks for posting the beautiful photos and scans. I was completely unaware that Hoover made such facinating "juniors" so late in its history. The variations are many! We did not have many of this type of cleaner here.

Beautiful collections! Thanks for sharing it with all of us!

Here are mine and Rob's latest acquisitions

The U1102 Turbopower Junior from the Electricity Board Shops, as appear in the advert that Mike posted above

and a still to be cleaned late series machine - the U2872 Turbopower, in a nice shade of what I will call Aubergine (anyone any idea of the official name for the colour?).

This is the highest numbered model of Turbopower that I have been able to find - was this the last of the hardbag run?

and the ratings plate so that someone can date the machine.
apologies for the dust - it will maybe get a clean this sunday.

Paul

The last Hardbag Total system was the Red one with black handle/black hose.

You know the beast - in that friends container.......

They were still in the argos catalogue as late as 1999/2000 IIRC

Last non total system was the blue one which we already have

Update on the U2872 - all nice and clean now.

It was covered in heavy dust -methinks it was used by a builder or decorator.

Was also choked with dense fluff/dust.
Bearing in mind what it was used for, it has polished up quite well.

Cheers
Paul
